Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the contemporary world, we have witnessed a significant rise in throwing waste as it is instead of properly managing it. There are numerous methods of doing waste management like reuse, recycle and reduce, but people are still not adopting any of these to protect the environment. This essay will discuss a few reasons, particularly for not opting for recycling and provide solutions to overcome the problem.
Firstly, I believe people are not aware or they are less educated about recycling of their waste. Secondly, even if they are aware, then most of the time they think that it is government's responsibility to clean up the waste generated by various sources. Moreover, I think that due to increased purchasing power and conspicuous consumption, people keep on buying new products instead of recycling or reusing earlier ones. For instance, my own neighbor who is well-educated get reluctant when it comes to cleaning up his own space.
One of the possible solutions is to organize awareness campaigns by the government about the waste management and teach masses how to recycle their waste in an effective manner and adopt eco-friendly practices. People can also be educated about the repercussions of harming the nature. Furthermore, separate dustbins can be installed at different places where people can throw materials that can be recycled.
To recapitulate, proper recycling of rubbish is important to maintain a balance in the environment and people should actively participate to recycle as much as possible. Nothing is impossible if we are determined to save the Earth that provides us everything that we need to survive on this planet.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as lack of awareness, the belief that waste management is solely a government duty, and consumerism. However, the development of these points is somewhat superficial. For instance, the example of the neighbor is a bit anecdotal and lacks depth. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'why' behind these points with more detailed explanations or broader societal examples. The position is clear throughout, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons from the solutions. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the neighbor example and the solution paragraph is a bit abrupt. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the structure supports the central argument effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'conspicuous consumption', 'repercussions', and 'eco-friendly practices'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'throwing waste as it is' (which is slightly unnatural) and 'get reluctant' (should be 'is reluctant'). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, the control is not always precise. To improve, focus on more natural collocations and ensure that your word choices fit the formal academic tone required for Task 2.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'methods of doing waste management' (should be 'methods of waste management'), 'the government's responsibility' (missing article 'the'), and 'harming the nature' (should be 'harming nature'). While these errors are present, they do not impede communication. You have a decent grasp of sentence construction, but you need to refine your control over articles and prepositions to achieve a higher band. Increasing the variety of complex structures would also be beneficial.
