In many countries, people do not recycle their rubbish as much as they could.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 4.5)

Recycling is the major thing in which we can give our rubbish item to them and they recycle it and the new item could become from our rubbish material

like if we threw some kind of plastic and then go to recycling point and then first they wash our rubbish thing then make them into other many things

in other countries it seem that people did't give their rubbish to the recycling point so if they didnot give their item to recycling point so the things which are made from plastic so they are make difficulity for maker to make other item of plastic if we didnot give items to the recycler so they the item were lying on road or make some type of disease which are not benifical for other people health so if you have some type of waste items like plasstic bootles glass etc so you should have to give to the recycler so they can firstly clean it and put in melting machine and make different item of plastic or glass

in the market when you go to the shop to buy some plates glass bottles and you didnot get your desire item you feel bad. so its done because of you didnot give item to recycler and their would be shortage of items in markets so you should have to give items to the recycler so they can make many different items of plastic or different design which you can easily get from maeket and dont have to face any difficulty so the major talk is that you should recycle your rubbish item

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for low recycling rates and suggesting solutions. However, the development is limited and repetitive. The ideas are presented in a very simplistic manner, focusing primarily on the mechanics of recycling rather than the underlying social or economic reasons why people fail to recycle. The explanation of solutions is also quite basic, relying on personal advice rather than broader societal or governmental strategies. To improve, you should provide more sophisticated arguments, such as lack of infrastructure, public awareness, or government policy, and support these with more detailed examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay lacks paragraphing, which is essential for a clear structure in an IELTS task. The text is presented as a single block, making it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are very limited and often repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'so' and 'and'. There is a lack of logical transition between the reasons for not recycling and the proposed solutions. To achieve a higher band, you must organize your response into distinct paragraphs (introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion) and use a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive, often relying on simple terms like 'rubbish item', 'things', and 'make'. There is little evidence of the ability to use less common lexical items or precise collocations. Phrases like 'major talk' and 'rubbish thing' are not appropriate for an academic essay. The repetition of words like 'recycler' and 'plastic' throughout the text limits the range of expression. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to environmental issues, such as 'sustainability', 'waste management', 'infrastructure', and 'environmental impact'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The essay consists almost entirely of long, run-on sentences connected by 'and' or 'so', which lacks the variety of complex structures required for higher bands. There are frequent errors in basic grammar, including subject-verb agreement ('it seem', 'they are make'), article usage, and punctuation. The lack of full stops makes the text difficult to read and obscures the intended meaning. To improve, you should practice writing shorter, grammatically correct sentences and gradually introduce complex structures like relative clauses or conditional sentences, while ensuring that punctuation is used correctly to separate ideas.
