Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is limited. The reasons provided, such as 'people waste wealth' and 'lack of free time', are somewhat vague and lack specific examples or logical depth. The proposed solutions, such as 'banning bad products', are underdeveloped and lack practical detail. While the response covers the requirements, the arguments are not fully extended or supported with sufficient evidence, which is necessary for a higher band score. The position is clear, but the overall analysis remains superficial.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is often disjointed. Transitions between sentences are frequently missing or repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'from my everyday experience'. Cohesive devices are used in a very basic and sometimes inaccurate way, making the flow of ideas feel mechanical. For example, the transition 'in this case' does not effectively link the preceding argument to the conclusion. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks the necessary cohesion to guide the reader smoothly through the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic words like 'things', 'bad', and 'waste'. There are frequent spelling errors, such as 'majoure', 'mostely', 'modren', 'produt', and 'Govtment'. These errors, combined with the limited range of vocabulary, make the writing feel simplistic. The student struggles to use precise terminology related to environmental issues or recycling, which restricts the ability to convey complex ideas effectively. To improve, the student needs to focus on expanding their range of topic-specific vocabulary and ensuring accurate spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors that often impede clarity. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'it is also plays' and 'many people works'. Sentence structure is often fragmented or run-on, and there is a lack of complex sentence structures. Punctuation is inconsistent, with missing commas and incorrect capitalisation throughout the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, the persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction significantly limit the range and accuracy of the writing.
