Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the lack of education and the need for government intervention. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why recycling reduces global warming is vague, and the example regarding rural India is not fully integrated into the argument. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed explanations and ensure that examples directly support your main points rather than just stating them. The position is clear, but the overall depth of the argument remains at a basic level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic progression of ideas from the introduction to the causes, solutions, and conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'One major cause', 'To solve this cause', 'Second solution'). Additionally, some sentences are poorly connected, such as the transition between the discussion of education and the example of plastic bags. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow and coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'proper', 'huge', and 'good'. There are also some noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'make an environment global warming free' and 'how environmental cycle run'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of more sophisticated or academic vocabulary limits the score. To improve, focus on learning collocations and topic-specific terminology related to environmental issues and public policy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include missing articles ('in 21st century'), incorrect verb forms ('how it is affected to the environment'), and punctuation errors (e.g., spaces before commas). Some sentences are awkward, such as 'This happen because in many countries people are not highly educated to understand the how envirornmental cycle run'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be distracting. You need to focus on subject-verb agreement, article usage, and sentence construction to improve your accuracy.
