Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 131 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay attempts to address both parts of the prompt—reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions—the ideas are underdeveloped and lack sufficient detail or examples. The introduction is somewhat confused, mentioning 'benefits and drawbacks' which were not requested by the prompt. Because the response is substantially under-length, the development of the argument is severely limited, preventing the essay from reaching a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into two paragraphs, but the structure is underdeveloped. There is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly' and 'In addition', but the overall flow is disjointed due to the brevity of the text. The logical progression of ideas is hindered by the lack of supporting sentences. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between the problem and the solution is abrupt. To improve, you should focus on developing each point into a full paragraph with a clear topic sentence, supporting arguments, and a concluding thought.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'many machineries are developed' (machinery is an uncountable noun) and 'according to my prospective' (should be 'perspective'). The range of vocabulary is limited, relying on simple terms like 'great thing' and 'garbage'. To achieve a higher score, you need to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary, including less common lexical items and more precise collocations, while ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'nobody has a time' (article error), 'recycling of glass bottles require' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'Government should spent funs' (tense and spelling errors). The sentence structures are predominantly simple, with very few attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and the accurate construction of complex sentences using subordinating conjunctions.
