Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. However, the development is limited. The ideas are presented in a fragmented manner, and the explanation of 'why' is somewhat repetitive, focusing heavily on the negative consequences of dumping rather than the underlying reasons why people fail to recycle. The solutions provided, such as using biotechnology to convert waste into electricity, are relevant but lack depth. The response would benefit from more structured arguments and clearer links between the causes and the proposed solutions to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. There is no introduction or conclusion, and the paragraphing is inconsistent, with some sentences appearing as isolated thoughts. Cohesive devices are largely absent or misused, such as the abrupt transition 'as in many country'. The progression of ideas is difficult to follow because the sentences do not flow logically from one to the next. To improve, the student should use clear paragraph breaks for each main idea and employ linking words like 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition' to connect sentences and ideas more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and often inaccurate. There are frequent errors in word choice and word form, such as 'recycle mean gave the life to thing' instead of 'recycling means giving new life to items', and 'mosques' instead of 'mosquitoes'. The student struggles with collocations and precise terminology, relying on simple, repetitive language. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of variety and the persistent errors in word formation significantly limit the ability to convey complex ideas clearly. Expanding vocabulary related to environmental issues and practicing correct word forms is essential.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The grammar is weak, with frequent errors in sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, and article usage. Many sentences are fragmented or lack necessary components, such as 'the buried under the ground also cause the lose of fertility'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the existing simple sentences often contain errors that impede readability. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing capital letters and incorrect spacing. The student needs to focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and work on mastering fundamental grammatical rules before attempting more complex structures.
