Student answer (Band 6.0)

PRODUCT REcycling has become a major issue globally in most of the countries. Many of the people do not reuse their waste or the product they have as many times as they could and just throw it away even if they can use it multiple times. This situation is maybe due to the massive production, adverse advertisement, and change in consumer perspective or mind. And there are several things we can do to cope with it.

One of the major cause of it is that the products are being manufactured largely because of technological advancement. Things have become more cheaper and faster to make. That's why manufacturers are making it in large quantity. And other thing is that these products are getting advertised adversely, like they advertise it in a way that you should must have to buy this product in order to stay in fashion and also to remain technologically up to date.In addition manufacturers are now making products that are not that reliable, and if we want to repair that particular thing, it will cost more than the product. So people don't repair that product. Instead they buy a new one.

There is also lack of awareness among people that how these products are damaging our environment. Because plastic and the things that are used to make electronic products, they do not get degraded quickly and they remain in our environment for years or even centuries. These kind of wastes are contaminating our soil and water and causing serious health issues to humans and animals and are contributing to environmental degradation.

We can change this problem if the government introduce strict policies for the manufacturers to make more reliable things that we can use for longer term, and also by doing public awareness campaigns to aware public about the serious and adverse effect of throwing and not recycling products and how it is threatening our environment. Furthermore we can encourage people to recycle their product and reuse if it can be used multiple times. Also government can reduce the tax on repairing the things. In this way people will repair things more instead of buying new products.

In conclusion, people are not reusing their products because of the huge production of different products and how they are advertised to the people, that they have to buy it even if they have that product in their home. We can solve this problem by implementing several measures by government and to encourage people reusing their product by making them aware of environmental issues that we are currently facing.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, covering technological advancement, consumerism, and lack of awareness. The solutions provided, such as government policy and public awareness campaigns, are logical and directly address the causes mentioned. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the conclusion, which restates the causes rather than synthesising the argument. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported point rather than circling back to previous ideas. Overall, the position is clear and the task is fully addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organised into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a progression of ideas from the causes to the solutions. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Referencing is generally clear, although some sentences are slightly disjointed due to repetitive sentence structures. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the essay flows well enough for the reader to follow the argument without difficulty. To improve, try to use a wider variety of cohesive devices to link sentences more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'degraded' and 'contaminating', which are used correctly. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'adverse advertisement' (likely meaning 'aggressive marketing') and 'more cheaper' (a grammatical error that also affects lexical precision). The range is sufficient to discuss the topic, but lacks the sophistication and flexibility required for a higher band. Focusing on collocations and avoiding redundant phrasing would enhance the lexical quality.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'One of the major cause' (should be 'causes'), 'more cheaper' (double comparative), and 'you should must have to' (redundant modals). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward phrasings that hinder the flow. The majority of sentences are understandable, but the frequency of errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Greater attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of modal verbs is recommended.
