Student answer (Band 6.0)

In most of the countries, people do not recycle the their waste to the maximum as they could. I personally agree with this statement, because as the garbage that is not been recycled is causing the pollution. There is still a gap to recycle the rubbish.

In most of the third world countries, creating an eco-friendly environment is still a huge problem, but this is due to the certain reasons. As most of the population of such countries are uneducated they are unaware of what damage the plastic waste can cause to the environment. Benefits are not provided to the citizens and they are not motivated to play there role in cleanliness of the society. Moreover, there is no check on using the packing material made of harmful chemicals. These points should be addressed to ensure the recycling of the waste.

Government should arrange seminars and awareness sessions to educate and guide the citizens about the advantages of recycling and how cost can be saved by such activities. In addition, as most of the developed countries pays you to throw a plastic bottle in the trash can, these rules should be implemented everywhere the world. People should be fined on throwing waste on roads, lakes and rivers. Plastics bags should be banned by the authorities.

In conclusion to this, government should be their role to make sure people are recycling their waste rather than just throwing it away. Besides this, being a responsible citizen it is the duty of everyone to ensure the recycling and throwing the rubbish category wise in designated bins.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the mention of 'uneducated' populations in 'third world countries' is a broad generalization that lacks nuance. While the solutions provided (seminars, fines, bans) are relevant, they are presented in a list-like fashion without deep exploration of their practical implementation or effectiveness. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more specific examples or logical explanations, ensuring that the connection between the problem and the proposed solution is more robust and analytical.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'In conclusion to this'. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'In conclusion to this'. Additionally, there are instances where the flow between sentences could be smoother; for example, the jump from discussing education to government incentives in the second paragraph is a bit abrupt. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas would benefit from more sophisticated linking words to connect the arguments more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic terms like 'huge problem', 'damage', and 'good'. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'play there role' (should be 'their') and 'throwing the rubbish category wise' (which is non-standard phrasing). To improve, you should aim to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to environmental sustainability, such as 'waste management', 'incentivization', 'non-biodegradable', or 'environmental degradation'. Expanding your range to include less common lexical items would significantly enhance the quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include article misuse ('the their waste', 'the certain reasons'), subject-verb agreement ('most of the developed countries pays'), and awkward phrasing ('throwing waste on roads'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To achieve a higher score, you need to demonstrate better control over complex structures and proofread carefully to eliminate basic errors in articles, prepositions, and verb forms.
