Student answer (Band 5.0)
Many people do not recycle their rubbish as much as they could in many countries. While other believe that recycling is really crucial for future.
Although, every countries have different rules, regulations or policies for recycling. Recycling is really crucial for future, but people do not take interest in their future. If we do not recycle rubbish at time then it took long to be recycle. There should be a recycling depot for every city, so the residents do not need to travel miles to throw rubbish. For example, in Japan people are really serious about their future and they recycle their rubbish timely.
Furthermore, our government should make policies against these issue. Many people have different serious reasons, that they have to go for work so they do not have time to manage it. So, now recycling depot have introduced a facility, if you do not want something so you can simply place it outside of your house. Then vehicle will come and they will take that along with them. Which is really good facility for the residents. Moreover, people need to understand it seriously. This is really crucial for us and our young generation better future. For example, this facility is really good for working people that do not even have to travel to throw rubbish in recycling depot. They just have to keep their rubbish out and a vehicle will come and will take it along them.
In my opinion, our government should provide the facility of vehicle and recycling depot. And set a day of every week that a vehicle will come on this day and at this time. Although this will be really helpful for the working persons as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt by discussing reasons why people do not recycle, such as lack of time and inconvenience, and proposing solutions like government policies and kerbside collection services, drawing on an example from Japan. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the point about working people not having time is repeated in the third paragraph. While a clear position is presented, the ideas lack full extension and suffer from over-generalisation. The argument could be strengthened by adding more detailed explanations and varied examples. Consequently, the performance aligns best with Band 5.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates some organisation with the use of basic cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'In my opinion'. However, the overall progression is disrupted by repetitive ideas and awkward phrasing, such as 'While other believe' and 'Although, every countries have'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas lacks clear logical flow, particularly in the middle section where the discussion of kerbside collection is restated. Reference words are occasionally unclear or repetitive, impacting the smoothness of reading. Therefore, the coherence and cohesion reflect a Band 5.0 level.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on words like 'rubbish', 'future', 'recycling', and 'facility'. There are noticeable lexical and word choice errors, such as 'take long to be recycle', 'take that along with them', and 'working persons'. Some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'regulations or policies', are overshadowed by inaccuracies in collocation and word forms. While the meaning is generally communicated, the restricted range and persistent errors place this criterion at Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The text displays a mix of simple and attempted complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in basic grammar, such as subject-verb agreement ('every countries have', 'depot have introduced'), article usage, and sentence fragments ('If we do not recycle rubbish at time then it took long to be recycle.'). Furthermore, punctuation is inconsistent, and dependent clauses are often incorrectly punctuated as standalone sentences ('Although, every countries have...'). These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptors.
