Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt by discussing why people in certain countries do not recycle and suggesting potential solutions, such as tackling corruption and improving civic sense. However, the development of ideas is limited and hampered by severe expression issues. Furthermore, the length requirement has NOT been met, as the response contains only 246 words, falling just short of the 250-word minimum. This necessitates a slight penalty on Task Achievement. While the candidate attempts to provide examples like Sudan, Palestine, Yemen, India, and Pakistan, the arguments remain somewhat superficial and lack clear, coherent extension. Consequently, the task is addressed only partially, aligning closely with a band 4.5 to 5.0 profile, rounded to a 4.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, which shows an awareness of structural organization; however, the flow and progression are heavily disrupted by severe grammatical and lexical breakdown. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as 'at begenning', 'in additionally', and 'Secondly'. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the train of thought. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within sentences and paragraphs fails to create a smooth, logical progression. These features place the response firmly in the band 4 range.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and often inaccurate. There are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, including 'indivisuals', 'mucj', 'recylcle', 'rubish', 'begeenning', 'numearous', 'suffuring', 'resorces', and 'curruption'. The range of vocabulary is limited and inadequate for academic writing, often relying on repetitive terms or incorrect collocations like 'money problem' instead of 'financial difficulties' or 'lack of civic sens'. These frequent errors strain the reader and impede clear communication, reflecting a band 4 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
Grammatical control is weak throughout the response. There is a complete absence of error-free complex sentences, and basic sentence boundaries are frequently blurred by comma splices and run-on sentences, such as 'it is evidence that, there is plenty nations those who do not recylcle dtheir rubish , what they could done, in my pont of view , they can bring a such change in this secator.' Subject-verb agreement errors, incorrect verb forms ('we has to our voice'), and missing articles are pervasive. Simple structures are attempted with frequent errors, and complex structures are almost entirely faulty. This indicates a band 4 performance.
