Student answer (Band 6.5)

people should recycle their trash as much as they can, because it will lead to reducing the hazardous consequences of its deposition on the environment.

The primary reason to support this initiative is that recycling of waste plays a vital role in reducing the emergence of pollutants in the ecosystem. A low recycling rate will lead to the concern of contaminants in the ecosystem which could lead to the increase in the level of pollution. This is followed by causing various severe illnesses including hepatitis and lung carcinoma. In fact, studies have observed a sharp decline in food-borne and water-borne diseases in countries that have implemented trash recycling rules and regulations.

The second motive to favor this stance is that recycling will also lead to the development of more local products which will be beneficial for the country's economy as well. Additionally, people can utilize recycled output material to synthesize new plastic bottles, shirts, and other essential equipment, at low cost.

To enhance the rate of recycling, regulatory authorities should introduce laws and plans to attract people more towards recycling their rubbish. The government can install recycling plants at every street corner which will also assist the people and reduce the commuting cost. In addition to this, companies should encourage their production units to increase the use of recycled materials. The majority of the countries that have focused on the use of recycled ash as input material have experienced more profit with almost a similar quality products. Although, recycled inputs have some drawbacks regarding the quality of products, their eco-friendly nature has outweighed them.

Overall, trash recycling is essential for maintaining the health of the environment. As far as i am concerned, major issues related to healthcare have arisen due to the contamination and low recycling rate. However, recycled inputs are not as good as natural materials but that can be ignored while considering the benefits of recycled raw materials.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, exploring the reasons behind low recycling rates and offering practical solutions. The position is clear throughout, and the main ideas are extended and supported. For example, the student explains the health implications of poor waste management, citing hepatitis and lung carcinoma, and suggests installing recycling plants at street corners to reduce commuting costs. While the economic argument regarding local products is slightly tangential to standard environmental discussions, it is still relevant and developed adequately. The ideas meet the Band 7 level as all parts of the prompt are addressed with clear support, though further depth in exploring psychological or cultural reasons for not recycling would elevate the task response to a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay displays a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving smoothly from an introductory statement to reasons for the problem, economic implications, and finally solutions. Cohesive devices such as 'The primary reason', 'The second motive', and 'Additionally' are used effectively to guide the reader. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. However, referencing is occasionally repetitive, and some transitional phrases could be more sophisticated. Cohesion overall is managed well enough to comfortably meet the Band 7 criteria, ensuring the progression of thought remains easy to follow from start to finish.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow for flexibility and precision. Less common lexical items such as 'hazardous consequences', 'ecosystem', 'lung carcinoma', and 'regulatory authorities' are utilized with a good awareness of style and collocation. However, there are minor awkward formulations, such as 'garbage deposition' or 'utilize recycled output material', and occasional word choice inaccuracies like 'the concern of contaminants'. Spelling and word formation are generally accurate, and vocabulary errors do not impede communication. The lexical range is adequate for a Band 6.5 to 7.0, leaning towards the latter due to successful attempts at topic-specific terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay incorporates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional-like clauses and relative clauses (e.g., 'plants at every street corner which will also assist the people'). There are frequent error-free sentences, though minor grammatical errors and punctuation issues persist, such as the lowercase 'i' in 'As far as i am concerned' and slight awkwardness in phrasing like 'that can be ignored'. Control of grammar is generally good, and errors are non-systematic and do not impede communication. The variety of structures and overall accuracy fit comfortably within the Band 6.5 or 7.0 profile, demonstrating a solid command of sentence formation.
