Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt regarding the reasons for low recycling rates and solutions to change this behavior. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times unclear. For example, the writer mentions health issues like 'asthema' and the smell of garbage affecting old people, but these points are under-developed and lack clear logical progression. While a position is presented, the arguments tend to over-generalize without providing robust, coherent examples. The connection between people not recycling and the specific consequences described is frequently muddled by grammatical issues. Therefore, this performance aligns closely with Band 5, as it addresses the task only partially and the ideas remain limited and under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The text is divided into four paragraphs, showing an attempt at a standard essay structure with introductory, body, and concluding sections. However, the internal organization and progression are very weak. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as starting paragraphs with 'To begin with this problem' and 'To begin with this solutions,' which do not function as appropriate transitions. Furthermore, referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to follow the logical links between sentences. The flow is disrupted by frequent shifts in focus, preventing the piece from achieving a clear overall progression. This corresponds to a Band 4 descriptor, where information and ideas are not arranged cohesively enough to ensure smooth reading.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The student uses a very basic and repetitive vocabulary throughout the response. Words and phrases such as 'recycling issue is on peak,' 'waste material,' and 'garbage' are repeated frequently without variation. There are also notable lexical errors and inappropriate word choices, such as 'determinal' instead of detrimental, and 'enviroment' (spelling error). The limited range makes it difficult for the writer to express precise meanings, and the noticeable errors cause some difficulty for the reader. This performance sits firmly at Band 4, reflecting basic and repetitive vocabulary where errors consistently strain the reader's comprehension.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences and faulty attempts at more complex structures. There is a high frequency of grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('there are many problem face'), missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and severe punctuation errors. For instance, the sentence 'when the smell of garbage fell considerabley into their home as well as mind they get sick' demonstrates a complete breakdown in syntactic control and meaning. Because errors are frequent, pervasive, and often distort the intended meaning, this meets the criteria for Band 4.
