Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The student attempts to address both parts of the prompt, discussing the causes of low recycling rates and suggesting solutions such as avoiding plastic. However, the response is severely limited by its length. At only 158 words, it falls far short of the 250-word minimum requirement. Consequently, the ideas remain underdeveloped and lack sufficient explanation or relevant examples. For instance, the mention of disposable bottles as a solution is contradictory to the point about avoiding plastic. Because of the under-length penalty and the lack of full idea development, this response aligns closely with Band 4.0 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay is divided into four short paragraphs, showing an attempt at a basic structure including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, logical progression is weak. The transitions between paragraphs, such as 'On the second hand,' are unnatural and mechanically awkward. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, making the flow of ideas disjointed. Paragraphing is attempted, but the individual paragraphs are too brief and lack internal cohesion, resulting in a performance that fits the Band 4.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used throughout the essay is basic, repetitive, and heavily restricted. The student frequently misuses common terms and collocations, such as 'reuse their garbage,' 'creating earth dirty,' and 'having disease with their health.' There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, including 'enviornment' and 'reuse' instead of 'reused.' The lexical range is minimal and occasionally strains the reader's understanding, which firmly places this performance at Band 4.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences are simple or attempt complex forms that are fundamentally flawed, such as 'Making enviornment more polluted and people are having disease with their health which makes them able to survive.' Frequent grammatical errors, missing subjects, incorrect verb tenses, and awkward phrasing distort meaning and cause severe difficulty for the reader. The control of grammar is weak throughout, matching the criteria for a Band 4.0 score.
