Student answer (Band 4.5)

In many Countries, People do not recycle their rubbish. That's a very habbit. That's kind of rubbish which we cannot recycle, we need to dispose these items. Becuase, that rubbish can generate many kinds of bacteria's. In future, they were the extreme infection like malaria and such others. If the rubbish were recyleable, Then recycle that kind of rubbish. if you don't recycle that's your own loss also dirty your own community. If your community were not clean, so you face such bad thing that you never want. Your own friend's were left you. Because your cleanness is your definition. Such recycleable things will gave us some money. For example, plastic bottles, soda cans and such other things etc. Japan is the most cleanest country in all over the world. Bcz they have restrictions and highly penalties in Japan. All countries may do that restriction and penalties on the rubbish if they don't clean them. You don't gave any warning to any poeple dont care about what status he has just do it. if you warn them they do same mistake again and again. that's the only thing you can do if you want to clean all rubbish. Last week, I see the rubbish were on the side of main road, there were so many bacteria's and insect's which is unpredictable in their rubbish. so, I call them to clean all rubbish. But they ignored me. If govt restrict or do some charges on them. so, they do their work. that's bcz I tell the right way to improve our health issues from that rubbish that's the only option I'll know

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt, discussing reasons why people do not recycle (such as a lack of awareness, laziness, and bacterial risks) and suggesting solutions (such as government restrictions and heavy penalties, referencing Japan as an example). However, the development of ideas is limited, repetitive, and disjointed. For instance, the discussion on bacteria and infections lacks clear logical extension, and the proposed solutions are stated rather than fully explained. Furthermore, the tone fluctuates between formal essay writing and personal anecdote ('Last week, I see...'). While the prompt is partially addressed, the overall development falls short of Band 6 due to under-developed ideas and an unclear progression of the central topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5

The organization of the essay is weak, primarily due to an absence of standard paragraphing. The entire response is written as a single dense block of text, which severely hampers the visual and logical flow. While basic cohesive devices are used (such as 'Because', 'For example', and 'If'), they are often repetitive, misused, or structurally flawed (e.g., 'that's bcz I tell the right way...'). There is no clear overall progression of ideas; instead, sentences jump erratically from recycling issues to personal anecdotes and back to penalties. Paragraphing is missing entirely, and referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the train of thought.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The lexical resource is very basic and repetitive. The student relies heavily on simple vocabulary such as 'rubbish', 'clean', 'recycle', and 'thing'. There are numerous non-standard word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'very habbit' instead of 'bad habit', 'most cleanest' instead of 'cleanest', and 'highly penalties' instead of 'heavy penalties'. Furthermore, spelling and word form errors are frequent, including 'bacteria's' and 'insect's' with inappropriate apostrophes, and 'recyleable'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey a basic message, the frequent inaccuracies and lack of a varied, flexible range place this response firmly in the lower band range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

Grammatically, the response displays a very limited range of structures. The text consists mostly of simple sentences and flawed complex or conditional structures. Frequent grammatical errors significantly impede readability and meaning. Examples include subject-verb agreement errors ('Your own friend's were left you', 'rubbish were on the side'), incorrect tense usage ('Last week, I see'), and persistent punctuation and capitalization issues (e.g., starting sentences with lowercase letters or capitalizing common words like 'Countries' and 'People'). Complex structures are attempted—such as conditional sentences ('If the rubbish were recyleable, Then recycle that kind of rubbish')—but they are consistently faulty, resulting in frequent errors that cause difficulty for the reader.
