Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is an undeniable fact that the increasing amount of garbage is one of the major problems faced by the world in 21st century. In several nations of the world, citizens are able to maximise the recycling of their household waste but they do not do do. This essay will explore how health consiousness and lack of facilities are the root causes of this issue and how administrative authorities perform their role to curb this concern.

Firstly, one major reason behind the lack of recycling process is that individuals are very protective in their health regards. Due to this, they consider waste material as a source of infectious agents that spread diseases. Hence, they throw away the used things instead of recycling them. Secondly, another leading cause is unavailability of proper equipments for recycling process. As advanced techniques and machinery is required to make material more hygienic and ready to use. These facilities are out of range for a common person. For instance, proper autoclaving is required to kill all microbes and it is very expensive process. Therefore, people give priority to buy new rather than recycling old one.

Nevertheless, there are certain viables measures to tackle this menace. The primary solution would be formation of specific law that enforce public to recycle their home waste. The government should restrict the rubbish production to a specfic amount per house and also penalize the individuals that cross that limit. Furthermore, another effective solution I believe would be management authorities should organize seminars and workshops to develop awareness about benefits of recycling and drawbacks of increasing wastage. In such programs, team of experts and professionals should also teach the people about how to recycle and increase the safety of recycle products. For instance, government of pakistan starts the project of Green Punjab in which they give awareness and education to public about increasing concern of household waste. As a result of which, the percentage of pollution significantly reduced.

In conclusion, although suspicious nature and unavailability of proper facilities are the widespread causes lack of recycling, I believe through proper rules formation and organizing awareness programs, this problem can be curtailed.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task, putting forward clear reasons for why people do not recycle as much as they could, such as health concerns and lack of facilities, and suggests viable solutions including legislation and awareness programs. The position is maintained throughout the essay. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or rely on uncommon generalisations, such as the idea that people view household rubbish as a source of infectious agents due to health consciousness. Nevertheless, the main parts of the prompt are well-covered with relevant supporting examples, such as the mention of Green Punjab.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate reasons from solutions. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader through the text, such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Nevertheless'. However, some cohesive links and referencing feel slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'how administrative authorities perform their role to curb this concern' in the introduction. Overall, the progression of ideas is coherent and easy to follow throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-related terms like 'household waste', 'administrative authorities', 'infrastructure', and 'awareness'. There are some noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'health consiousness' (spelling), 'do do' (repetition/slip), 'equipments' (uncountable noun treated as countable), and 'viables measures'. Less common vocabulary is attempted, but occasional inaccuracies in collocation and word formation prevent the lexical score from reaching a higher band. However, communication is not impeded by these errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional and relative clauses. There are several grammatical errors scattered throughout the response, such as missing articles ('is unavailability of proper equipments'), incorrect prepositional usage ('protective in their health regards'), and subject-verb agreement or tense inconsistencies ('government of pakistan starts the project'). Despite these errors, the complex structures are generally understandable, and the punctuation and grammar do not severely impede the reader's overall comprehension.
