Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by identifying causes (lack of awareness, infrastructure) and offering solutions (incentives, campaigns like Haritha Bhavanam). The position is clear throughout the essay. The ideas are generally well developed with relevant explanations and a concrete example from Kerala, though some arguments, such as the discussion on waste segregation, could have been pushed slightly further. Overall, the task is fully covered, fulfilling the requirements for Band 7.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, two body paragraphs covering causes and solutions respectively, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used throughout, such as 'However', 'To elaborate', and 'To recapitulate'. However, there are instances of mechanical or slightly awkward transitional phrasing, such as 'The source of snags related to recycling of rubbish are multitudinous', which affects the smooth progression. Paragraphing is used appropriately, placing each main idea in its own section, earning a solid Band 6.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student attempts a range of less common vocabulary items, such as 'multitudinous', 'conspicuous', 'ecological responsibility', and 'reproaching' (though misused as 'reprocessing'). There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'hitches allied to recycling', 'inadequate infrastrature' (spelling error), and 'rewaring them'. Despite these limitations and inaccuracies in word choice, the vocabulary is adequate to communicate the ideas clearly, placing this response at Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Complex structures are attempted, such as in the sentence 'To elaborate, people who lacks the proper knowledge about waste management will not follow...', but these often contain grammatical errors (e.g., subject-verb agreement with 'people who lacks'). Other errors include spelling mistakes like 'infrastrature' and 'lawmakes', and fragmented phrasing such as 'measures can be doneto encourage'. These errors do not impede communication, matching the Band 6 descriptor.
