Student answer (Band 5.5)
As the population of countries are increasing day by day, and people are using different products through which they are also litering a lot, it has been noticed that many citizens of country do not recycle their trash.
The major reasons behind this issue are that people are lazzy, they don't recycle their rubbish with innovation, usually they just throw it in a bin or left it for sweeper. Some citizens are irresponsible, they don't understand their responsibility towards their country and society, they don't opt to clean their streets; however, they just keep on spreading trash and do not come up with new ideas through which they can overcome this serious situation. In third world country the root cause of this problem is illiteracy, the resident of these countries are not educated, they are still living in industrial era where people were not educated enough to know how to reuse the trash for their benefits.
Like every problem has it solution, this poblem do have too. The government should take some strict steps against the citizens who do not come up with innovative ideas to recycle, there should be a heavy fine on people who are throwing such kind of trash which is recycleable, the united nations should educate the people through their platforms that there are the ways to recycle the rubbish for their own benefits, because when you talk about people's benefit they follow your guidance and saying. Moreover, there should be a reward system which government should introduce as soon as possible, they should reward the citizen who has come up with an innovative idea of recycling a waste material, in addition to this there should be a point base system where citizen's point add up when they recycle the trash, this will motivate the country to reuse the goods.
In conclusion, if these steps would apply in the future for the benefit of the country, the residents will be educated, motivated and responsible. Furthermore, the environment will be clean and innovation will increase.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the reasons why people do not recycle as much as they could, such as laziness, lack of awareness, and illiteracy, and suggesting solutions like government fines, educational campaigns by the United Nations, and reward systems. The position is clear throughout the text. However, some ideas are somewhat simplistic or repetitive, particularly the points regarding laziness and lack of innovation. While the ideas are relevant, they lack deep extension and specific, real-world examples, remaining somewhat general. This corresponds to the Band 6 descriptors where all parts are addressed with relevant ideas, but some remain underdeveloped.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay is divided into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing causes and solutions separately, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'The major reasons behind this issue', 'Like every problem has it solution', and 'Moreover'. However, some referencing is faulty, and cohesion can feel mechanical or repetitive at times, such as the frequent use of comma splices instead of proper conjunctions or full stops (e.g., '...trash, this will motivate...'). Paragraphing is generally appropriate, ensuring an overall coherent arrangement, which places the response firmly at Band 6.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'innovation', 'illiteracy', 'recyclable', and 'motivation'. However, there are notable word choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'litering' instead of littering, 'lazzy' instead of lazy, 'poblem' instead of problem, and 'point base system' instead of point-based system. These errors indicate a limited flexibility and control over word forms and spelling, though they do not seriously impede overall communication. This performance aligns well with the Band 5 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some attempt at subordination and conditionals. However, grammatical accuracy is weak. There are frequent errors, most notably run-on sentences and comma splices (e.g., '...for sweeper. Some citizens are irresponsible, they don't understand...'). There are also subject-verb agreement errors like 'the resident of these countries are' and missing articles or pluralization issues. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 5 descriptors where attempts at complex sentences are often faulty.
