Student answer (Band 5.0)

In the country where I live that is India, people do not recycle their rubbish as much as they could. First reason I think it might be that people does not have time from their busy routine to do this kind of environmental activities like recycling or reusing the things. Secondly I feel that the awareness about recycling and making the environment safe is less among people. Third people think that it’s not their job or work to recycle their rubbish. They do not consider their responsibility to take care of our planet. To change this mentality of the people, awareness camps regarding the environment protect should be done to explain the responsibilities to people regarding recycling their rubbish as much as they can. People should aware about all the benefits that they will surely get after recycling their rubbish. I remember one incident when I was very small and there was guy living nearby my house who always recycle his rubbish and tell us also to do the same. By seeing him I get motivation to recycle my rubbish as much as I can so that it also helps to protect us as an individual as well as it is good for our planet too. Another example I have seen in my life that there was one girl who use to recycle many things and those recycled items she is using for selling. From this idea she started earning as well from the recycled materials that she collected from different places. This really amazed me and I felt so motivated to do recycling of every rubbish I get for my benefit.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying why people do not recycle as much as they could (such as lack of time, poor awareness, and a lack of personal responsibility) and suggesting measures to change this (such as awareness camps and highlighting benefits). However, the development of these ideas is limited and somewhat simplistic. The transition from reasons to solutions is abrupt, and the personal examples, while relevant, are framed in a repetitive narrative style rather than serving as fully developed academic support. Furthermore, the position is somewhat blurred by the lack of a clear introduction and conclusion. Consequently, the performance aligns best with the Band 5 descriptors, as the task is addressed, but ideas remain underdeveloped and lack sufficient depth.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay lacks proper paragraphing, as it is presented as a single large block of text, which significantly hinders readability and structural clarity. While the writer uses basic cohesive markers such as First reason I think, Secondly, and Third to sequence ideas, the overall organization lacks a logical progression from an introduction through body paragraphs to a conclusion. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as ambiguous pronoun use in phrases like By seeing him I get motivation. There is an over-reliance on repetitive framing rather than smooth transitions between sentences. Due to the absence of standard paragraphing and limited cohesive management, this response fits the Band 5 level for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like environmental activities, responsibilities, and motivated. However, there are frequent word choice and collocation errors, such as environmental protect instead of environmental protection, and use for selling instead of used for selling. Phrasing is often overly simplistic or repetitive, as seen with recycling of every rubbish I get. While communication is not severely impeded and the reader can follow the intended meaning, the restricted vocabulary and noticeable errors in word formation place this response firmly in the Band 5 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like people does not have time and there was guy living. Tense consistency is also problematic, shifting incorrectly between past and present narratives in examples, such as who always recycle and tell us or who use to recycle. Punctuation and article usage are frequently flawed. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect the characteristics of Band 5, where complex structures are often faulty and accurate structures are overshadowed by recurring mistakes.
