Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, containing only 166 words. Consequently, the development of ideas is severely limited. While the student attempts to address the prompt by mentioning reasons why people do not recycle (such as government inaction and lack of awareness) and potential solutions (such as using less plastic and producing electricity), these points are underdeveloped and lack sufficient support or relevant examples. The discussion frequently drifts away from recycling into general environmental pollution, such as vehicle smoke, industry emissions, and global warming. Because the response is significantly under-length and only partially addresses the specific requirements of the prompt, it falls below the threshold for Band 5.0, resulting in a Band 4.0 score.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The essay lacks proper organisation, paragraphs, and logical progression. The entire response is written as a single, continuous block of text without paragraph breaks, making it difficult to follow the transition between the reasons for not recycling and the solutions. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'and' or abrupt transitions like 'firstly' without a structured framework. Referencing is frequently unclear, and the lack of punctuation disrupts the logical flow of information. Although some ideas are loosely related to environmental issues, the absence of coherent structure and mechanical progression places this criterion firmly at Band 4.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent lexical and spelling errors that occasionally strain the reader's comprehension. Examples of weak or incorrect word choices include 'rubish', 'postive aspect', 'contaminated is dominate', 'smoke of vehicles', and 'golbal warning'. The student attempts to use some less common environmental terms such as 'pollution', 'glaciers', and 'electricity', but inaccurate word forms and collocations (e.g., 'send life health and active') limit precision. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey a basic topic, the high frequency of spelling and word-formation errors restricts the score to Band 4.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of poorly structured simple sentences or run-on sentences joined improperly by conjunctions or lacking punctuation entirely. There is a complete absence of reliable complex sentence structures. Frequent errors are present throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'government do not take'), tense inconsistencies, and missing articles. Punctuation is virtually non-existent, leading to confusion between independent clauses. These persistent and severe grammatical inaccuracies frequently impede communication, aligning the response with the Band 4.0 descriptors.
