Student answer (Band 5.0)
According to the statistics, under developed countries have significantly increased population as compared to the developed countries. In contrast education level and literacy rate of developed countires is much higher than the under developed countries and developing woeld. To maintain the neat and clean environment of any society in the world we must know the value of cleanliness and its impact on the environment. Another reason, why many countries do not recycle their rubbish as much as they can is the lack of knowledge of the recyclable products. To change this trend and to recycle rubbish as much as expected, every country need strong education system and to make people aware of the impact of the recycleable rubbish. We can use digital media and advertisement on tv to get our task done. Similarly government must provide more and more education to people on recycling products. Schools can play a vital role as the developing minds are always in the schools, what if we add a lesson in school books on importance of recycling. many countries in the world are now using reward point and money reward to its people for using the recycling products collections points. In dubai, the recent developed country on the earth, people put soda canes and bottles into the collecting machines and get money in return. In short we need education and sources specially on public places to increase the recycling of the rubbish. With increasing population, we must understand the importance of rubbish recycling ASAP

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, exploring the reasons why people fail to recycle and suggesting solutions. However, the introduction immediately veers off-topic by discussing population growth and literacy rates in developed versus underdeveloped countries, which is tangential to the core theme of recycling. The main body does eventually identify relevant reasons, such as a lack of knowledge regarding recyclable materials, and proposes actionable solutions like public education campaigns, school curricula additions, and incentive schemes like the bottle-collection machines in Dubai. Ideas are generally relevant, but the lack of a clear structural division and the initial digression prevent the response from achieving a higher band. Overall, the task is partially to mostly addressed, warranting a band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response lacks formal paragraphing, being presented as a single solid block of text, which significantly detracts from the visual and logical organisation. While some cohesive devices are used to link ideas—such as 'In contrast', 'Another reason', and 'Similarly'—referencing and logical progression are frequently clumsy. For example, moving abruptly from global literacy comparisons to personal rubbish habits creates a disjointed reading experience. The transition between identifying causes and offering solutions is also blurred within the single paragraph. Cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty, placing this response firmly in the band 5.0 category.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication, but it is somewhat limited and repetitive. The student uses terms like 'neat and clean environment', 'recyclable products', and 'rubbish recycling' multiple times. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'under developed countries' (spelled as two words), 'developing woeld', 'recycleable rubbish', and 'sources specially on public places'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are generally hindered by collocation and spelling inaccuracies. While meaning is mostly conveyed, the vocabulary range and precision reflect a band 5.0 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures frequently contain errors. There are numerous grammatical and punctuation issues throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'every country need', 'government must provide', 'reward point and money reward to its people'), missing articles (e.g., 'in short we need education'), and punctuation omissions (e.g., lack of capitalisation at the start of sentences like 'many countries in the world'). These errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, aligning the grammar with the band 5.0 descriptors where frequent errors persist.
