Student answer (Band 5.5)

recycling has become an increasingly prevalent issue in contemporary society, giving rise to consideration concern among individuals, communities and policymakers. This development can be attributed to a range of underlying factors, while several effective measures can be implemented to address its root causes. The principal causes of this issue and the most visible solutions will be examined in the following paragraphs.

There are several compelling reasons behind the growing prevalence of recycling rubbish items, one of the most significant being that less awareness in society. This can largely be attributed to schools and colleges, our educational courses are not aware to recycling. Most of individuals don't know the importance of the recycling. Consequently, people don't focus on recycle their rubbish as much as they could, which has contributed considerably to the escalation of this issue. Furthermore, another noteworthy contributing factor is that most of people are more comfortable towards disposable product. This is because of widely available. In addition, government also play important role in this situation. In particular, government don't provide recycling plant near residential area. This can subsequently lead to individuals to cast away their rubbish items to dustbin.

In order to address these underlying causes, a range of well-coordinated

measures should be implemented by both the authorities and the wider

community. First and foremost, in schools we have to introduce the importance of recycling waste products. This could be achieved by implication of one lesson in every academic syllabus. Such an intervention would help to increase awareness in newer generation. Moreover, greater emphasis should be placed on government. This can be accomplished through advertisments.

Finally, individuals also have a crucial role to play in tackling this issue. They should recycle thier rubbish items, as this would encourage society. With sustained cooperation between governments and individuals, the root causes of this problem could be addressed more effectively and its long-term consequences substantially reduced.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the causes of low recycling rates and suggesting appropriate measures to change this. The writer presents a clear position throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas in the body paragraphs is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on awareness is somewhat circular, stating that educational courses are not aware of recycling and that individuals do not know its importance. While all parts are addressed, the ideas would benefit from deeper extension and more specific examples. Nonetheless, the task is adequately fulfilled, earning a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay is divided into logical paragraphs with a clear introduction and conclusion. There is an overall progression of ideas, moving from causes to solutions. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes faulty, mechanical, or unnatural. Phrases like 'in particular, government don't provide' and repetitive transitions weaken the flow. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as 'This is because of widely available,' where the antecedent is missing. Paragraphing is used sufficiently, but internal cohesion requires better control, placing this response at Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with attempts to use less common items such as 'prevalent', 'contemporary society', and 'underlying factors'. However, there are frequent word choice and collocation errors, such as 'consideration concern', 'less awareness in society', and 'cast away their rubbish items to dustbin'. Spelling and word formation errors also appear, such as 'advertisments' and 'thier'. These inaccuracies show a limited control of less common vocabulary, restricting the score to a Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'government also play important role', 'government don't provide', and 'most of people'. Additionally, sentence structures are sometimes awkward or incomplete, for example, 'This can subsequently lead to individuals to cast away...'. While the meaning is generally communicated, the frequency of basic grammatical errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band, resulting in a score of 5.5.
