Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, exploring the reasons why people do not recycle as much as they could, such as busy modern lifestyles and a lack of proper government infrastructure, and offering solutions like social awareness campaigns. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on people being too busy is stretched across paragraphs without adding deeply new insights, and the explanation of government infrastructure remains quite vague. The writer's position is clear throughout the essay, but the examples provided, such as the mention of American work schedules or Japanese children, are a bit simplistic and under-developed. To reach a higher band, the ideas would need more thorough explanation and varied supporting evidence. Overall, it satisfies the basic requirements of the task by covering all parts of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay is divided into four logical paragraphs with a clear introduction and conclusion. There is an overall progression of ideas, moving from reasons to solutions. However, cohesive devices are often faulty, mechanical, or unnatural, such as 'To elaborate it further' and 'To cite an example'. Additionally, referencing and pronoun use can be confusing, as seen in phrases like 'that why these people do not performing this operation' and 'how can you get benefits'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different parts of the prompt, but internal cohesion within sentences and paragraphs frequently falters due to awkward transitions and grammatical slips. While the structure is coherent enough to follow the writer's line of thought, the management of cohesive devices remains at a lower band level.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical resource is limited and heavily impacted by frequent spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally hinder communication. Examples of non-standard usage include 'modern ear' instead of 'era', 'an growing number', 'mush' instead of 'much', 'comtemporary', and 'Japnies'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'phenomenon', 'infrastructure', and 'competative', but these are often marred by spelling mistakes or awkward collocations like 'do not performing this operation'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the general topic of recycling and environmental awareness, the high frequency of basic lexical and orthographic errors prevents the response from achieving a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak throughout the text. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('every individuals are', 'public havn't', 'government have not'), tense confusion ('when a dust bin was not find'), and malformed verb phrases ('do not performing this operation', 'are recycle'). Many complex sentences are faulty, leading to awkward phrasing like 'There are numerous reason behind this phenomenon that why these people do not performing this operation.' Although meaning is usually retrievable despite these errors, the high density of inaccurate structures places this submission firmly in the band 5 range for grammatical accuracy and range.
