Student answer (Band 5.5)

In many countries, people do not recycle their rubbish as much as they could. This has been one of the major issues worldwide. The environment has been majorly affected by the waste it has been producing due to the using pastic every year.

The concern which has caused global warming is pastic waste. It can be seen visibly in over populated countries such as India,China,South Africa. The waste could not be reclycled due it not being produced from an eco friendly material. The plasic has been harming the evironment and causing a sensational global warming. It has widely affected the major cities for example india, a city called mumbai has been overly populated by the people and the use of plasic has rose which lead to global warming.Even some people try making it better by by reclycling the waste, which was not enough to eleminate the rubbish waste entirely.

Another major issue, Pepole not having basic or general knowledge about recycling waste.A report shows that large number of people are still unaware of the ways to recylce waste. For example India had a large population, but it lacks education which make it more harmful as the people are not aware of the concequences it can cause. They are not educated enough to know the difference between a wet waste and a dry waste.

From my perspective,I think there need to be a awareness program in every city of the country about how to discard your waste. The country's government should impose a law of banning pastic waste which will gradually decrease half of our problem and promote eco friendly products. Also the people of this country needs to take it as their own responsibility of thowing waste in the provided litters around them and not on the streets.Today's generation can make a better tomorrow.

In conclusion,People do not recylce their waste as much as they could due to lack of awareness and education.Imposing the ban on plastic will reduce global warming and make the world a better place to live and breathe in.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing why people do not recycle enough (lack of education and awareness) and offering solutions (government laws banning plastic and awareness programs). The position is clear throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive, particularly regarding the examples used, which heavily rely on mentioning India multiple times without offering broader global insights. While the ideas are relevant, they lack full extension and deep elaboration, placing the response solidly in the band 6 category for task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a generally coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, separating the introduction, reasons, solutions, and conclusion appropriately. However, cohesion is often faulty or mechanical. There are noticeable punctuation issues, such as missing spaces after periods (e.g., 'could. This has been'), which disrupt the flow. Referencing and transitional links between sentences are occasionally weak, making some parts of the text feel abrupt. For instance, moving between the causes of plastic waste and the lack of knowledge lacks smooth cohesive transitions, though the overarching progression remains understandable.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical range is adequate for the task, but vocabulary control is hindered by frequent spelling errors, such as 'pastic' instead of 'plastic', 'reclycled' instead of 'recycled', and 'eleminate' instead of 'eliminate'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'sensational global warming' (which is collocationally awkward) and 'eco-friendly', but these attempts often contain inaccuracies. While communication is not severely impeded, the accumulation of spelling and word-choice errors prevents the lexical score from reaching higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'The environment has been majorly affected by the waste it has been producing...' and 'The country's government should impose a law of banning pastic waste which will gradually decrease half of our problem...'. However, grammatical errors are frequent throughout the response, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the use of plasic has rose'), missing articles, and awkward preposition usage ('thowing waste in the provided litters'). These errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, aligning with the band 5 descriptors for grammar.
