Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response only minimally addresses the task requirements. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the text contains only ninety-four words, falling significantly short of the two hundred and fifty-word minimum. While the writer touches upon the general topic of recycling, the ideas are extremely limited and under-developed. The response attempts to explain why people do not recycle, noting that individuals 'do not have any sense of recycling,' but it fails to properly explore or provide solutions to change this issue as requested by the prompt. To reach a higher level, the writer must fully develop relevant ideas for both parts of the prompt and ensure the essay meets the minimum word length.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
Information and ideas are not arranged coherently. The text is presented as a single short block rather than using proper paragraphing, and there is no clear overall progression of argument. While some basic cohesive devices are attempted, such as referencing ('once recycled it can be used'), referencing and substitution are often unclear or faulty. For instance, phrases like 'The rubbish is not a thing that is been wasted' lack smooth logical links to the preceding sentence about 'etiquitte'. To improve, the writer needs to logically sequence ideas into separate paragraphs and manage cohesive devices more effectively to guide the reader through a well-structured argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, with noticeable errors that may cause some difficulty for the reader. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items such as 'etiquitte' and 'globes', but these contain spelling errors and inaccurate word choices. There are also issues with word form, such as 'difderent' instead of different. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey a basic topic, it lacks the range and precision needed for a higher score. To improve, the writer should focus on expanding their range of vocabulary, mastering accurate spelling, and ensuring correct word choice and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, consisting primarily of basic simple sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors that can cause difficulty for the reader, including issues with verb forms and tenses, such as 'that is been wasted' and 'they haven't thaught so'. Errors also appear in articles, plurals, and subject-verb agreement, such as 'There is difderent types of rubbish'. These frequent errors restrict the grammatical range. To progress, the writer needs to incorporate a mix of accurate simple and complex sentence forms while eliminating frequent basic errors in grammar and punctuation.
