Student answer (Band 6.0)

Citizens of many nations do not recycle complete waste material produced by them, they only do a small proportion of it. The reason behind it could be the lack of resources used to recycle waste material. The governments should invest in the campaigns and resources used to recycle the waste material.

In todays world, population is growing rapidly in many countries which leads to the production of more waste material. To curb this problem citizens are recycling that waste to protect their environment. Due to the limited resources they can only recycle a limited amount of that waste. For instance, India has biggest population across the globe and they produce a significant amount of waste but their waste recycling capacity is only limited to the metropolitan cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengluru. Moreover, there is also lack of awareness among citizens about the recycling of waste material because people from rural areas tend to live their lives as their elders did. Which leads to the insufficient recycling of waste material produced by them.

To address these problems, governments should invest more in building necessary resources. They should build more recycling facilities in societies and streets which encourage citizens to recycle their produced waste. In rural areas, local muncipality should organize educational sessions to encourage and educate people in adopting healthy lifestyle by recycling their waste material. For example, government should take inspiration from China. China manages waste a lot better compared to some countries. They have proper dust bins after every 100 meters on every street. In closed societies, they have waste recycling facilities which help citizens recycle plastic very easily. As a result, their streets are clean from waste.

In conclusion, recycling is a major global problem. It think lack of resources leads to non recycling of waste material by poeple. To curb this problem governments should implement new policies to build a better future for their country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task, discussing both the reasons why people do not recycle as much as they could and potential solutions. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. The discussion on the lack of resources and infrastructure is clearly presented, particularly with the example of Indian metropolitan cities and the comparison with China. On the other hand, the point regarding the lack of awareness in rural areas is slightly under-developed, as it touches upon tradition briefly without fully exploring how education can directly bridge this gap. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay, and the examples provided are generally relevant and support the main arguments well, though further extension of the consequences would help lift the task response to a higher level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear division into logical paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose in introducing the issue, exploring causes, proposing solutions, and concluding. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Moreover', 'To address these problems', and 'For example', though referencing is occasionally mechanical or repetitive. For instance, the transition between ideas could be smoother to avoid abrupt shifts in focus. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body paragraphs focusing on causes and solutions respectively, and the conclusion. To achieve a higher band, the logical progression within paragraphs needs to be refined so that cohesive links feel more natural and less formulaic.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing sufficient range to communicate the central ideas about waste management and recycling. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items, such as 'metropolitan cities', 'insufficient recycling', and 'infrastructure' equivalents, but these are sometimes accompanied by minor word-choice inaccuracies or awkward collocations like 'complete waste material' instead of 'all their waste'. There are also occasional spelling or word-form slips, such as 'muncipality' instead of 'municipality' and 'poeple' in the conclusion. While these minor lexical errors do not impede communication, they reflect a limited precision and flexibility that prevent the response from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms throughout the response, utilizing structures such as relative clauses and conditional-like phrasing effectively in places. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as article omissions and minor agreement issues like 'In todays world' missing an apostrophe, and sentence fragments like 'Which leads to the insufficient recycling'. However, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. A wider control over complex structures with fewer recurring slips in articles and punctuation would be required to achieve a higher band descriptor.
