Student answer (Band 5.5)
People in many countries donot recycle their garbage and rubbish as much as they could.
One of the major reasons of increasing pollution day by day is not recycling the garbage .In developing countries, there is not a proper system to dispose off garbage. So, people throw waste everywhere.even the industries donot have proper disposal system. To recycle the garbage, first there should be a proper disposal system. Many items made by the industries are not able to be recycled. So ,Government should make sure that the industries are making items that can be recycled after their usage .Then ,government should install a proper disposal system so that people could easily dispose off their waste according to government rules.Government can install large garbage recycle bins in streets and then assign government employees to pick that garbage after a specific period of time using garbage picking trucks. So, awareness should be raised among people to properly dispose off the waste in garbage recycle bins rather then throwing the waste on the streets or roads.
Non recycled waste is leading cause of air pollution. As the toxic materials from the waste enter the atmosphere ,these toxic materials affect our breathing, they have harmful effect on our lungs. when this waste enters water sources,it leads to water pollution ,not only making our drinking water polluted but also affecting aquatic life.
i have seen in my daily life that people donot follow the rules applied by the government.i have seen many people in my daily life who ignore the recycle bins and throw the waste on the streets.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing reasons why people do not recycle as much as they could and suggesting measures to change this. However, the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on why people fail to recycle mentions developing countries lacking proper disposal systems, but this point lacks extended explanation or concrete examples. Similarly, solutions such as installing recycle bins and raising awareness are stated rather than fully elaborated. To move to a higher level, the writer needs to extend and support all main ideas with clearer examples and a more fully articulated line of reasoning throughout the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation in the text, but it lacks a clear overall progression. The writing is structured into a single large block of text after the introduction, followed by a separate paragraph about pollution and a brief concluding note, which demonstrates a weak approach to paragraphing. Cohesive devices are minimal, mechanical, or repetitive, such as the frequent repetition of 'so' and 'i have seen in my daily life'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear. To improve, the writer must group related ideas into distinct, logical paragraphs and use a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices to guide the reader smoothly through the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common terms such as 'disposal system', 'toxic materials', and 'aquatic life', but there are noticeable errors in word choice, form, and collocation, such as 'dispose off' instead of 'dispose of' and 'non recycled waste'. Spelling and word-boundary errors are also present, including 'donot' and 'then ' instead of 'than'. These limitations restrict the precision of the writing. To achieve a higher score, the student should expand their vocabulary range, learn correct word combinations and prepositions, and carefully proofread to eliminate basic mechanical errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences and basic coordination. Attempts at more complex structures are frequently faulty or overly simplistic. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles ('in developing countries', 'on streets'), punctuation errors such as missing capitalisation ('i', 'government'), and spacing issues around punctuation marks. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty and hesitation for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to incorporate a wider mix of error-free complex sentences and pay closer attention to basic punctuation, capitalization, and article usage.
