Student answer (Band 5.0)

In many countries of the world, citizens pay littlle attention to recycling of rubbish, this is because there is no law that enforces such action and systems are not put in place to make recycling easy,. To eliminate this problem, government needs toenforce law to encourage recycling and resources should be put in place to make the process seemless.

Most people , especially in underdeveloped countries pay little or no attention to recycling of trash. This is because, there is no law that enforces the actions on people hence people see it more has a choice more than an obligation. Furthermore facilities such as recycle bins, recyccle cans that will aid the process is not out in place. for instances in japan every street has four types of recycle cans in everystreet, one for biodegradble material, another for cans , another for metal and cans. this makes the process easier for the citizens

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response only minimally addresses the task requirements, largely due to the severe under-length issue, as the text contains only 163 words and falls well short of the 250-word minimum. While the writer does attempt to address both parts of the prompt by discussing reasons why people do not recycle and suggesting government solutions, the ideas are limited and highly under-developed. For example, the mention of Japan as a supporting example is cut off and lacks full extension. The response also trails off incomplete at the end ('to scrub this menace, the governmet needs enforce people to'), preventing any clear conclusion or fully formed position from being established.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is some basic organization evident through the use of initial topic sentences and paragraph breaks, but the overall progression lacks clarity and cohesion is quite mechanical and inadequate. Cohesive devices are basic and repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on 'This is because'. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, and the text suffers from abrupt cut-offs, particularly in the final paragraph where the unfinished sentence disrupts the logical flow. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structure of the paragraphs is weak, meaning ideas do not link together smoothly for the reader.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited and minimally adequate for the task, demonstrating frequent spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. There are numerous spelling mistakes throughout the text, including 'littlle', 'seemless', 'recyccle', and 'governmet'. Additionally, the student uses awkward lexical choices and collocations, such as 'more has a choice more than an obligation' instead of 'more of a choice than an obligation', and 'to scrub this menace' instead of 'to tackle this problem'. The writer attempts some less common terms like 'biodegradble', but these are marred by inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The grammatical range is limited, featuring predominantly simple sentence structures alongside faulty attempts at complex sentences. There are frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and article usage that cause difficulty and strain for the reader. Examples include run-on comma splices like 'citizens pay littlle attention to recycling of rubbish, this is because...', missing articles such as 'government needs toenforce law' and 'facilities such as recycle bins... is not out in place', and persistent subject-verb agreement issues. Punctuation is also problematic, marked by spaces before commas and periods, and the sentence structures frequently break down.
