Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing the reasons why people do not recycle as much as they could and offering viable solutions, such as government intervention and educational campaigns. The position is generally clear throughout. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others; for instance, the points regarding specific African and South Asian countries lack sufficient supporting detail and remain somewhat superficial. While the examples provided, such as Nigeria and Pakistan, are relevant, the explanations of why recycling is absent in these regions are brief. To move to a higher level, the writer needs to extend these ideas with more thorough explanations and fully flesh out the connection between the stated causes and the proposed solutions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used to separate distinct ideas, such as moving from the causes of low recycling rates to solutions like governmental bodies and educational integration. Nevertheless, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in transitional phrases like 'in the upcoming paragraph we will discuss' and 'Firstly, In many african and south asian countries... have no proper recycling facilites'. Referencing is also not always entirely clear, leading to occasional disruptions in the logical flow. Achieving a higher band requires smoother transitions between paragraphs and more flexible, natural use of cohesive devices without relying on repetitive structural patterns.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the main points despite a limited range. The writer attempts less common vocabulary items, such as 'carbon emmissions', 'goverment body', and 'bio waste', but these attempts are accompanied by notable inaccuracies. There are frequent spelling errors—such as 'rubbbish', 'envoirnment', 'inductors', 'stats', 'metric tone', 'Nigera', 'Libiya', 'limition', 'awarness', 'curriculam', and 'childerns'—alongside word-choice errors like 'rubbish waste lies in one of the major problems'. These errors are noticeable and occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader, though communication is still maintained. To improve, the writer needs to expand their control over less common lexical items and pay closer attention to standard spelling and precise word collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional clauses ('if they dont get recycled it will create...') and relative clauses. However, there is a limited range of reliable structures, and attempts at complex sentences often contain errors in grammar and punctuation. There are frequent mistakes in subject-verb agreement ('the piles of rubbbish which is', 'these kind of waste is need'), article usage ('one of the the study', 'under developing countries'), pluralisation, and prepositions within grammatical patterns. Punctuation issues, such as uncapitalised sentences ('in conclusion, the awarness...') and fragments, are also present. These errors persist throughout the text, though they rarely impede overall communication. A higher band would require a greater variety of error-free complex structures and tighter control over basic grammatical agreements.
