Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, stopping abruptly at only 88 words. (Note that 9 words copied from the prompt were not counted). Because the piece is extremely brief and incomplete, it only attempts to outline a few causes and solutions in the introduction without actually developing any of the body paragraphs. Consequently, the task is addressed only minimally. To reach higher bands, the writer must ensure the full length is achieved and that both parts of the prompt—the reasons why people do not recycle and what can be done—are fully explored with extended ideas and relevant examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

The text shows a rudimentary attempt at organisation by providing an introductory overview that outlines causes and solutions, utilizing basic cohesive devices such as 'Thereby' and 'In addiion'. However, due to the severe lack of length and the abrupt cutoff where a body paragraph should begin, there is no overall progression or functional paragraphing. Cohesion is therefore mechanical and incomplete. To improve, the writer needs to develop distinct paragraphs for each main idea and use a wider, more accurate range of linking words to guide the reader logically through the arguments.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication, attempting some less common words like 'awareness', 'institutions', and 'campaigns'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'the could' instead of 'they could', 'dicuss' instead of 'discuss', 'benifits' instead of 'benefits', 'addiion' instead of 'addition', and 'solotions' instead of 'solutions'. These errors reflect a limited range and occasional slips. To progress, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, improve spelling accuracy, and use precise collocations related to environmental issues.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and emerging complex sentence structures, such as the introductory multi-clause sentence. However, control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent, featuring errors such as incorrect pronoun usage ('the could' instead of 'they could'), awkward phrasing ('this can be possible because of lack of awareness of related to'), and missing punctuation around inserted elements. These errors indicate a limited range with frequent flaws for this level. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to produce a greater proportion of error-free sentences and ensure correct article usage, prepositions, and subject-verb agreement.
