Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response responds to the task only minimally and fails to meet the word count requirement, coming in significantly short of the two hundred and fifty-word minimum. While the introduction outlines the intention to discuss the causes and methods, the body paragraphs only partially address the prompt. The student introduces the first reason concerning a lack of awareness and provides some general thoughts, but the second part of the prompt regarding solutions is completely cut off mid-sentence at the end of the second body paragraph. Consequently, the second task requirement is left unanswered, leading to a restricted and incomplete coverage of the overall prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation evident through the use of transitional markers such as 'To begin with, first of all' and 'For example', yet the text lacks a clear overall progression because the essay remains unfinished. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final body paragraph is prematurely truncated, preventing a fully developed structure. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and cohesive devices are occasionally repetitive or mechanical. While sentences are grouped into recognisable thematic blocks, the lack of a concluding paragraph and the abrupt ending hinder the logical flow and overall coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, featuring basic and repetitive terms alongside several noticeable errors. Words like 'wastings' are non-standard, and there are frequent spelling mistakes such as 'sveral' and 'snd'. The student attempts to use less common vocabulary items like 'contemporary social landscape' and 'inhabitants', but these attempts are offset by persistent inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'restore' instead of 'recycle' or 'store'. These lexical shortcomings require some effort from the reader to fully interpret the intended meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple patterns and basic complex forms that are often flawed. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the response, including missing spaces around punctuation (e.g., 'donot', 'anddonot'), incorrect verb forms, and articles. For instance, phrases like 'at individual level and social level' omit necessary determiners. These frequent errors in grammar and punctuation can cause some difficulty for the reader, although basic meaning is usually retrievable despite the lack of structural variety and accuracy.
