Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the prompt by attempting to answer both parts regarding why people do not recycle and what can be done about it. However, the ideas remain limited and under-developed, with repetitive points about placing dustbins and educating students. Furthermore, the length requirement was not met: the essay contains 245 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum, with 8 words copied directly from the prompt not counted. This places the response firmly at a lower achievement level where the task is addressed only partially, and the position is not always clearly sustained throughout the text.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays some basic organization with clear paragraph breaks separating the introduction, reasons, solutions, and conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and the flow is frequently hindered by repetitive structures and mechanical linking words such as 'The first reason', 'The second reason', and 'Firstly'. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or overused, and referencing between sentences is not always clear, as seen in the abrupt transitions within the body paragraphs. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal logical progression needs significant strengthening to achieve a higher standard.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. The writer relies heavily on basic, repetitive terms such as 'recycle', 'process', 'government', and 'rubbish'. There are noticeable lexical errors, including word-formation and collocation mistakes like 'not aware the recycle process', 'convinent' (convenient), 'envolve' (involve), and 'tourist support' (spot). These errors and limited word choices cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the effective expression of more complex ideas, keeping the lexical score at a basic level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer employs a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, such as in the clause 'how the harmful diseases they are spreading without doing recycling their household garbage'. There are frequent errors in grammar, including missing prepositions, incorrect verb forms ('If government take steps'), and issues with articles and plurals. These errors are recurrent throughout the text and frequently cause difficulty for the reader, reflecting a grammatical control that matches a lower-intermediate tier.
