Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify two relevant reasons: people may not know how to recycle, and they may prefer the convenience of buying new bottles or clothes. The bottle example also begins to explain a possible benefit, saving money. However, the response addresses only the “why” part; it does not explain what governments, communities, or individuals could do to increase recycling. The ideas are also very briefly developed, and the opening list of linking words is not connected to an argument. The response is 144 words, below the required 250, so there is not enough explanation or relevant support to cover the task adequately. Develop each reason with a clear example, then add specific, practical measures to change behaviour.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic attempt to group related points: one section discusses plastic bottles and another turns to old clothes. Words such as “because,” “whereas,” and “nevertheless” also show an effort to connect ideas. However, the opening sequence—“for instant,” “however,” “nevertheless,” “whereas,” “instead”—is a disconnected list rather than an introduction, and several transitions do not express the relationship between the sentences that follow. The response has no clear overall progression from causes to solutions, and the final point is left unfinished. Organise the essay into an introduction, a paragraph explaining causes, a paragraph proposing solutions, and a conclusion. Use linking expressions only where their meaning fits.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “recycle,” “plastic bottle,” “reuse,” “convenient,” and “buying new clothes,” so the reader can identify the subject. There are also attempts to use more formal connectors. However, the vocabulary is repetitive, especially repeated forms of “recycle,” and several word choices or spellings are inaccurate, such as “insignifiant,” “safe” where “save” is intended, and “for instant” instead of “for instance.” Phrases such as “how to recycled” also show difficulty selecting the correct word form. Build a wider set of accurate topic phrases, such as “recycling facilities,” “waste separation,” and “public awareness,” and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to connect clauses using “because,” “whereas,” and “if,” and it includes both simple statements and longer sentences. However, control is inconsistent, and many sentences contain errors that make the relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For example, “It often argued the that people dont recycle” is missing a suitable subject and has an unnecessary word, while “they dont have have knowlege how to recycled” contains repeated wording and incorrect verb forms. The sentence about bottles also runs several ideas together without clear punctuation. Practise accurate basic sentence patterns first, including subject–verb structure and verb forms after “to,” then use full stops to separate complete ideas before attempting longer sentences.
