Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, environmental protection is a big challenge for many cities and recycling the rubbish is one of the most effective step towards protecting environment. However, citizens are not able to recycle their litters as much as they could. The main cause of this issue is the lack of awareness in public about the benefits of recycling. While the viable solution for the same could be that the government should organize awareness campaings.

The public is not awared of the environmental benefits that could produce through recycling so they not pay more attention to reusing. To explain it, people do not know about the consequencies of throwing rubbish everywhere. Additionally, some citizens have least knowledge about the waste management system, so they countinue throwing waste in public places which can disturb ecosystem. To give an example, a survey conducted by the World Health Organization found in 2015 that in India most of the people were not aware of recycling system and they were the main source of littering everywhere.

A practical way out of the aforementioned issue is that the government should start the campaingns about the waste disposal awareness. The government has the authority to spread the awareness among people about recycling. Moreover, the authority could apply strict rules against littering in public places. Through the awareness campaigns many people would know the importances of reusing and focus more on it. To quote an instance, a report by the BBC found in 2020 that after organizing the campaigns among citizens, recycling ratio was increased significantly.

To conclude, this essay has discussed that the lack of awarness about reusing among public is probably the main reason, while the feasible solution for the same is that the government should start public awareness programmes for waste management.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both parts of the question: you identify limited public awareness as a reason for low recycling and propose government awareness campaigns, with stricter rules as an additional measure. Your position remains clear, and the examples about India and the BBC report help illustrate your points. This shows some of the development expected at a stronger level. However, the explanation is somewhat narrow: the essay largely treats lack of awareness as the sole cause, without considering practical barriers such as inconvenient collection facilities or limited access to recycling bins. The proposed campaigns are also not explained in much detail, and the examples are asserted rather than connected closely to how the measures would change behaviour. Developing these points would make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining the cause, a paragraph proposing solutions, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress logically, and signposting such as “Additionally,” “To give an example,” and “To conclude” helps readers follow the argument. The cause and solution paragraphs each stay focused on their main purpose. Some linking is a little mechanical, however, and repeated references to “the government” and “awareness” make the progression less flexible. Phrases such as “the same” and “the aforementioned issue” also make connections sound formulaic rather than natural. To strengthen cohesion, use clearer references to specific ideas and link each example directly to the claim it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “waste management,” “environmental benefits,” “ecosystem,” and “littering,” so the reader can understand the subject and your main points. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “a practical way out” and “feasible solution.” However, noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation errors reduce precision: “campaingns,” “consequencies,” and “awarness” are misspelled, while “recycling the rubbish,” “recycle their litters,” and “recycling ratio” are unnatural or imprecise combinations. Some wording is also repetitive, particularly “awareness” and “government.” Check spelling carefully and learn common topic collocations, such as “recycling rates” and “raise public awareness,” to express ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a relative clause in “the environmental benefits that could produce through recycling” and a conditional-style result in “Through the awareness campaigns many people would know…”. The overall meaning is usually understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “one of the most effective step” needs a plural noun, and “protecting environment” needs an article. In “people do not know about the consequences…,” the following clause “so they countinue throwing” would be clearer with a complete, correctly formed construction; similarly, “the benefits that could produce” is missing a passive form or an appropriate subject. Review articles, agreement, and verb forms, and aim to make complex sentences accurate before adding further complexity.
