Student answer (Band 6.0)

One of the most pressing issue facing modern society is that people do not recycle their waste materials as much as possible. This essay will examine the principal challenges associated with this issue and suggest the practical measures to alleviate them.

One of the most significant reason is that people do not have enough information about the importance of recycling process. They do not understand that recycling can help in reducing pollution and protect their environment. As a result, they throw all types of garbage in the same bin instead of throwing them separately plastic bags, bottels, rapers and other items. Another compelling reason is that recycling facilities are not available in all areas. For example, some residential areas do not have separate bins for throwing all types of rubbish which makes process of recycling difficult and even impossible.

To tackle these problems several measures can be taken. Firstly, governments and schools should educate people and children that recycling is a useful and beneficial process that protect their surroundings from being polluted. They must give education and knowledge to general populance through awareness compaigns and educational programmes. The help public in realizing that their small actions can make big difference in their lifes. Secondly, local authorities should provide separate bins in public places. In addition, state should implement fines for those who did not follow waste disposal rules and give rewards to those who recycle waste items regularly. These steps can make recycling process more easier and convenient.

In conclusion, although do not recycle waste materials posses several difficulties, these problems can be resolved through providing awareness, keeping recycle bins everywhere and imposed strict regulations on following the rules of recycling process.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the question: it identifies limited public knowledge and a lack of recycling facilities as reasons, then proposes education, more bins, fines and rewards. The position is clear, and the examples of mixed rubbish and areas without separate bins help make the causes relevant. This meets the task well, but development is uneven: the lack of information is explained through environmental benefits, while the facilities point is brief, and the proposed fines and rewards are not explained in terms of how they would change behaviour. To strengthen the response further, extend each main idea with a specific example or a clearer explanation of its likely effect.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall progression: an introduction, a paragraph explaining causes, a paragraph proposing solutions, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “One of the most significant reason,” “To tackle these problems,” and “In conclusion” makes the structure easy to follow, and the solutions correspond broadly to the causes. Some linking is mechanical, however, and a few connections within sentences are unclear. For example, the list of rubbish items after “instead of throwing them separately” needs clearer punctuation and phrasing, while “The help public in realizing” interrupts the flow between ideas. Use a wider range of natural transitions and check that each sentence connects grammatically and logically to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The response uses relevant topic vocabulary, including “recycling facilities,” “awareness campaigns,” “waste disposal rules,” and “separate bins,” and it attempts more formal expressions such as “principal challenges” and “practical measures.” However, inaccurate word forms, spelling, and collocations are noticeable and sometimes make the writing less natural: “bottels,” “rapers,” “populance,” and “compaigns” are misspelled, while “give education and knowledge” is awkward. Repetition of “recycling process” and “waste materials” also limits flexibility. Build accuracy by checking spelling and choosing common natural combinations, such as “raise public awareness” and “make a significant difference.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

There is an attempt to use both simple and complex structures, including a relative clause in “areas which makes process of recycling difficult” and a conditional-style explanation beginning “As a result.” The main ideas remain understandable, but errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction occur across the response. Examples include “One of the most pressing issue,” “the most significant reason,” “process of recycling,” and “regulations on following the rules.” The sentence “The help public in realizing” is incomplete, and “although do not recycle waste materials posses several difficulties” is not grammatically formed. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and building complete clauses, then proofread articles and verb forms.
