Student answer (Band 6.0)
Across many nations, people do not recycle their household waste as frequently as they could. This problem is mainly caused by lack of awareness and limited recyling facilities. However, government and individuals can take several of steps to improve this situation.
One major factor is that, lack of awareness; many individuals do not understand how detrimental this types of waste could be to environment if its not disposed properly. As a result, mostly individuals throw plastic, bottles and other waste wherever they like. Another reason is that limited recyling faclities. Like in some areas it is difficult to find recyling bins; As a result, in some areas most of the individuals find difficult to seperate their waste if theirneighbourhood has less bins.
To reduce this problem government should run a awareness campaign to educate their citizen about the benefits of recyling. government should introduce fines for improper disposal to encourage people to act responsibily. However, schools and colleges should conduct different types of lectures to let youngsters know about the benefits of recyling and how indisposed garbage can be detrimental to out environment. Due to this, many of the children can be responsible about this problem from young age. Secondly government could offer financial incetives to their citizen; for instance, government should give small payment or discount to those individuals who returns plastic bottles and other type of waste.
To conclude, the low rate of recyling is due to lack of public awareness and insufficient facilities. I believe that education, better recyling system and proper government policies can encourage people to recycle more and reduce environmental pollutions.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the question: it identifies low awareness and limited recycling facilities as causes, then proposes campaigns, penalties, school education and financial incentives. The position is clear, and the examples about bins and returning bottles are relevant. This fits the level where the task is covered, but some points are less fully developed than others. For instance, the difficulty of separating waste where bins are scarce is mentioned, but the essay does not explain how this affects people’s choices or give a specific illustration. The proposed fines and incentives are also listed without discussing how they could be implemented or why they would work. Develop each main idea with a brief explanation or example to make the response more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, a paragraph on solutions and a conclusion. The progression from problems to remedies is easy to follow, and phrases such as “Another reason” and “To conclude” help signal the stages. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or unclear. “As a result” is repeated, and the opening cause paragraph uses a confusing sequence—“One major factor is that, lack of awareness; … Another reason is that limited…”—which interrupts the flow. Some references, such as “Due to this,” do not clearly identify the preceding idea. Use more varied links and connect each explanation directly to its main point; clearer sentence boundaries would also improve the paragraph’s flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses enough topic vocabulary to communicate its main ideas, including “household waste,” “improper disposal,” “financial incentives” and “environmental pollution.” It also attempts more specific expressions such as “detrimental” and “insufficient facilities.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the phrasing awkward: “recyling,” “faclities,” “incetives,” “indisposed garbage” and “responsible about this problem.” Repetition of “government,” “individuals” and “benefits of recycling” also limits flexibility. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the argument, but more accurate collocations and careful proofreading would strengthen the vocabulary. Aim to use precise phrases such as “raise public awareness” and “sort waste” rather than translating ideas word by word.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
There is a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional clause in “if its not disposed properly” and a relative clause in “those individuals who returns…”. The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in both sentence construction and agreement. Examples include “a awareness campaign,” “this types of waste,” “if its not disposed,” and “who returns,” where articles, number agreement or verb forms need correction. Punctuation also causes problems in “One major factor is that, lack of awareness;” and the capitalisation after a semicolon in “As a result.” Work on accurate sentence patterns and proofread articles, plurals and subject–verb agreement. More consistently controlled complex sentences would make the argument easier to read.
