Student answer (Band 6.0)

In several nations, people still do not recycle their garbage, or only a few people do this act. While there are multiple causes behind this ignorance, this can be tackled by taking some important steps.

On the one hand, there are several reasons for this bad act conducted by the community. To begin with, although this is a modern age, there are still people who are not fully aware of these things and they have not much knowledge regarding these acts and keep throwing trash on roads. In addition, there is the lack of development in many nations, especially in the Asian countries, as governments fail to provide recycle cans or dustbins in living colonies and societies and people have no other way to minimise this problem. Moreover, people do not get any kind of advantage by doing this and they do not pay much attention to these problems.

On the other hand, this problem can be tackled by taking some significant initiatives mutually by governments and the local community. First and foremost, states should run awareness campaigns among locals which engage them to do these kinds of activities and also tell them great benefits. Furthermore, authorities must grant big funds to strengthen the infrastructure of this department so it can work properly without any hurdles. Last but not least, individuals doing this act should be awarded money and other things so they get further motivation to do this act in the society.

In conclusion, acknowledge that people do not recycle their trash which has several causes but by taking some significant steps, this can be better.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question: you identify limited awareness, inadequate recycling facilities and lack of personal incentives as causes, then suggest campaigns, investment and rewards. These are relevant ideas and your overall position—that the problem can be improved through action—is clear. However, some points are asserted rather than explained. For example, the claim that people “do not get any kind of advantage” could be developed by explaining how convenience, costs or the absence of incentives affects their choices. Similarly, the proposed rewards need a brief explanation of how they would work. The response therefore covers the task, but some ideas are less fully developed or precise than others.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, a paragraph on solutions and a conclusion. The contrast between “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” helps readers follow the shift from problems to remedies, and ideas within each paragraph are generally grouped appropriately. However, the linking phrases sometimes feel mechanical, particularly “To begin with,” “Furthermore” and “Last but not least.” Some references are also unclear: “this act” is used repeatedly without always specifying whether it means recycling or littering, and “this can be better” in the conclusion does not clearly identify what will improve. Use more precise references and connect each proposed solution directly to a cause.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic-related vocabulary, including “awareness campaigns,” “infrastructure,” “motivation” and “minimise.” These choices make the main ideas understandable, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “this ignorance,” “recycle cans,” “grant big funds” and “doing this act.” “Bad act conducted by the community” also gives an unsuitable description of a widespread behaviour. Repeated use of “act,” “people” and “problem” limits precision. Aim for natural combinations such as “lack of awareness,” “recycling bins” and “provide funding,” and choose terms that distinguish recycling from littering.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concessive clause in “although this is a modern age” and a conditional-purpose structure in “so it can work properly.” Most sentences communicate their main meaning, and errors do not generally prevent understanding. Some grammatical problems remain, however. In “they have not much knowledge,” the more natural structure is “they do not have much knowledge”; “people have no other way to minimise this problem” also leaves the relationship between facilities and recycling unclear. The final sentence, “In conclusion, acknowledge that…,” lacks a clear subject and does not form a complete conclusion. Review sentence completeness and use clear subjects and verb patterns, especially when summarising your position.
