Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Trash management is not followed my many people around the world. Usually most people are familar with the recycle process but few of the population lack the idea and knoledge about this. Most of the citizens are not aware of the pollution and problem caused by the garbage and its management. The unmanaged garbage is one of the major cause of climate change too.

Firstly, all waste are not recycleable. We should have the knowledge of biodegredable and non biodegredable waste and pute then separately in different containers. The decaying waste should be managed in time otherwise it can lead to transfer of several chronical diseases as it attracts flies toward it and also have pungent and unpleasent odour. For instance, when we throw fruits peels openly, it grabs flyes attention and the same fly will alnd in our edible food and can transfer several bacteria in it and when we have them, we can fell sick and have to rush to the hospital. So, these kind of rubbish should be manage in systematic way such as making compost manure out of it which is a healty replace for chemicals which will contimate the soil.

Moreover, the non decaying waste such as plastics or metals should be recycled using various techniques such as the three R's which stands for reduce, reuse and recycle. Reduce means we should use or buy a product only when it is very necessary and in small amount as mych as we need it. Purchasing more products just create moree trash and mess. when we reduce the garbage, there are less waste to manage. Reuse means we should use the product till its last self life. This will prevent purchasing less things as well as generating small amount of garbage. Lastly, recycle means we shoult use the trash and make something useful out of it so that the garbage is managed significantly. For example, we can use plastic bottles of cold drinks to drink water after the drink is finished. This will save our money as we donot have to buy new water bottles and the trash is also managed.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses both questions: it identifies limited awareness of pollution and waste management as a reason, then proposes separating waste, composting organic material, and applying the three Rs. The examples about fruit peels attracting flies and reusing a drinks bottle make the suggestions more concrete. However, the explanation of why recycling is uncommon is brief and focuses mainly on lack of knowledge; other relevant barriers, such as inconvenient collection systems or limited facilities, are not explored. Some proposed actions also need clearer links to recycling—for example, reusing a bottle is useful, but the response could explain how local recycling services or public education would change people’s behaviour. Develop the causes and show more directly how each solution addresses them.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction to waste separation and composting, then to non-decaying waste and the three Rs. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Moreover,” and “Lastly” help signal the stages of the discussion. However, the progression is sometimes mechanical, and the opening does not clearly preview the two-part answer. Several sentences contain multiple ideas joined together, particularly the example about flies, food, illness, and composting, which makes the relationship between points harder to follow. References such as “these kind of rubbish” are also not always clear. Use separate paragraphs for causes and solutions, and make each paragraph develop one main point with clearer links between explanation and example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The response uses relevant topic vocabulary, including “biodegradable,” “non-biodegradable,” “compost,” “pollution,” and “recycle,” and it attempts some less common expressions such as “pungent odour.” This gives the reader a workable sense of the subject. However, spelling and word-choice errors are frequent and sometimes distract, as in “familar,” “knोwledge,” “decaying,” and “contimate.” Some combinations are also unnatural or imprecise: “last self life” and “a healthy replace for chemicals” do not express the intended meanings clearly. Build accuracy with common collocations such as “shelf life,” “a healthy alternative,” and “recycling facilities,” and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would also help distinguish recycling from reusing and composting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

There are attempts to use complex sentences and explain cause and effect, for example the sentence beginning “The decaying waste should be managed in time otherwise…” and the example about flies transferring bacteria. However, control is uneven, and errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction recur. Examples include “all waste are,” “the same fly will land,” “these kind of rubbish should be manage,” and “there are less waste.” Some long sentences also lack effective punctuation, making the relationships between clauses difficult to follow. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and verb forms, and divide extended explanations into shorter sentences. A wider range of structures will be more effective when the basic patterns are consistently accurate.
