Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses both questions: it identifies consumer demand for new, fashionable items as a reason for low recycling and proposes government encouragement and sustainable-development programmes. The example about students frequently replacing school bags helps illustrate the cause. However, the explanation is narrow and the proposed measures remain general: it is not clear how authorities would encourage recycling or what practical steps citizens should take. The opening also makes an unclear claim that people cannot reuse items even when they recycle, which does not establish a clear position. Develop the causes and solutions more fully, and make the relationship between them explicit, to provide a more complete response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a paragraph on causes, a paragraph on solutions and a conclusion. Basic signposting such as “To begin with,” “Therefore” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the broad direction. However, progression within paragraphs is limited, and several linking phrases feel mechanical or repetitive, including repeated use of “Firstly” and “this statement.” The conclusion largely repeats the proposed solution rather than drawing the discussion together. Some references are also unclear, such as “these are the main causes” after only one main cause has been explained. Use clearer links between each claim and its example, and organise each body paragraph around a distinct, developed point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main ideas, and the response attempts topic-related expressions such as “sustainable development,” “excessive waste” and “latest trends.” However, the range is limited and several choices or combinations are unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning less precise. For example, “use their things again in their life” and “show their high standards” do not express the intended ideas naturally; “dumping into garbage” is also awkward. Repetition of general words such as “things,” “problem” and “waste” further restricts precision. Build a wider set of accurate recycling and consumer-behaviour vocabulary, and check whether words combine naturally before using them.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some longer sentences, including a reason-and-result structure beginning “Many teenagers often purchase random things,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in verb forms and agreement occur in phrases such as “the problem can be solve,” “this cause problems” and “this problem can be tackle.” Sentence construction is also faulty in “so that every item use it properly,” while missing or incorrect articles appear in “an every person.” Punctuation and spacing around commas and full stops are frequently inaccurate, making the writing harder to read. Practise forming accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses while checking subject–verb agreement, verb forms and articles.
