Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify two valid headline features: Japan has the most study time and the least relaxation time. However, the response covers only a small part of the chart and does not report the sleeping figures or give a complete comparison across all three activities. The statement that Germany is “in next position for studying” is broadly accurate, but “Uk is almost less than one percent of Germany” misrepresents the figures: the UK is one hour below Germany for studying, not a percentage. The final sentence is unfinished and adds no clear information. The response is also substantially below the required 150 words, leaving the task minimally addressed. To improve, provide a clear overview and compare the actual hours for sleeping, studying and relaxing in each country.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response, with an opening statement followed by an overview and a further comparison. The use of “Overall” helps signal the overview. However, the ideas do not progress into a complete account of the chart: the final paragraph repeats Japan’s low relaxation figure and ends with the incomplete thought “The students in Japan are the highest.” Connections between points are also unclear, as in “Germany stood in next position for studying whereas, Uk is almost less than one percent of Germany.” Develop the response in a logical sequence, such as an overview followed by comparisons of the three activities, and use linking words only where the relationship between ideas is clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “average,” “highest,” “lowest,” and “compared to,” so the main topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or awkward, which makes comparisons difficult to interpret. “Highest position” and “least amount of relaxing students” do not describe hours spent on an activity naturally, while “almost less than one percent” is an unsuitable way to express the difference between the UK and Germany. Country names should also be capitalised consistently (“UK”). Use precise terms such as “hours spent studying” and “relaxation time,” and describe differences in hours rather than percentages unless the chart gives percentages.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple sentences and a more complex comparison, for example, “Japan accounted for the highest position in studying despite, it recorded the lowest position for relaxing.” However, the range is limited, and the complex sentence is not controlled: “despite” is incorrectly followed by a comma and a full clause. The sentence beginning “Germany stood in next position” also has faulty punctuation around “whereas,” and the final sentence, “The students in Japan are the highest,” is incomplete in meaning. There are also inconsistent article and sentence-pattern choices. Practise forming clear comparative sentences, such as “Japan recorded the most study time, whereas its relaxation time was the lowest,” and check punctuation when joining clauses.
