Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the task. While you have identified some trends, the analysis is incomplete and lacks the necessary detail to provide a comprehensive summary of the bar chart. Key features, such as specific data points or a clear overview of the differences between the three countries, are missing or under-developed. The conclusion is placed at the beginning, which is unconventional for an academic report. To improve, ensure you cover all categories (studying, sleeping, relaxing) and provide a more structured comparison of the data provided in the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay lacks a logical flow. The structure is disjointed, with a conclusion appearing at the start and the final sentence being incomplete. Paragraphing is present but does not effectively organize the information. Cohesive devices are used sparingly and often incorrectly (e.g., 'rather than it'), which makes the progression of ideas difficult to follow. To improve, use clear topic sentences for each paragraph and employ a wider range of linking words such as 'in contrast,' 'furthermore,' or 'consequently' to connect your ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'highest,' 'lowest,' and 'time.' There are several awkward phrasings, such as 'the bar is in hours' and 'both countries are spent same hours,' which hinder clarity. You need to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion,' 'allocate,' 'expenditure of time,' or 'significant disparity.' Expanding your range of synonyms and focusing on correct collocations will help you convey information more accurately and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('UK spend,' 'students both were gotten') and incorrect sentence structures. There is a lack of complex sentence forms, and the final sentence is an incomplete fragment. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and pluralization. Practice using complex structures like relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions to add variety, but ensure they are grammatically sound before attempting more advanced writing.
