Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have attempted to summarise the data, but there are significant inaccuracies in your interpretation of the figures. For example, you state that 8.5% of UK students are sleeping, whereas the chart likely represents a 24-hour cycle or a different unit of measurement entirely, making your specific percentages appear incorrect or misread. Furthermore, you mention 'weekends' in your analysis, but the prompt specifically asks for a 'typical weekday'. The overview is present but lacks a clear, accurate summary of the main trends. To improve, ensure you carefully read the axes and labels of the chart before writing, and focus on comparing the three countries rather than listing data for each one in isolation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For instance, the transition 'Whereas Germany has the highest...' is used, but the connection between sentences is sometimes weak. The referencing is also problematic; for example, 'the left over 7% students' is slightly confusing. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'in contrast', 'similarly', 'conversely') to connect your ideas more fluidly and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that relates back to the overall comparison.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is somewhat repetitive and contains some imprecise word choices. Phrases like 'paying heed to their studies' and 'at peak' are not the most natural collocations for describing statistical data. There are also some spelling errors, such as 'japan' (which should be capitalized) and 'there' used instead of 'their'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'proportion', 'significant', 'majority', or 'minority', and ensure you check for basic spelling and capitalization errors before finishing your response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder the flow of the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'students focusing... are at highest rates') and incorrect preposition usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement. Proofreading your work for small errors like missing articles ('the') and incorrect word forms will significantly improve the clarity and accuracy of your writing.
