Typical weekday for students in three different countries

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The bar chart shows the typical weekday for students in three different countries UK , Japan and Germany they spend in sleeping , studying and relaxing according to their schedules.

The study time of japan students is more than the rest of two countries as they spend more than half of their day in studying than sleeping and relaxing . They sleep only for 7 hours and relax for 4 hours which shows their work overload.

On the other hand the students in UK and Germany relax for 7 hours which is same and the students in UK sleep for 8.5 hours and study for only 8 hours which is as similar to the German students as they sleep for 8 hours and relax for 7 hours .As well as they study for 9 hours which is 4 hours less then Japanese students.

The overall table shows that the routine of UK and Germany students is much balanced than Japanese as they spend time on study as well as sleep properly and get them relaxed . While Japanese students do not have much time to relax themselves.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the task by identifying the main features of the bar chart. You successfully compare the three countries and highlight the differences in time allocation. However, the analysis is slightly hampered by inaccurate data interpretation; for instance, you state that UK students study for 8 hours, whereas the chart likely indicates a different figure. Additionally, the conclusion includes subjective commentary ('work overload') which is not strictly objective reporting. To improve, ensure you carefully cross-reference the data points and maintain a neutral, analytical tone throughout the report. While the main trends are identified, the precision of the data reporting needs to be more consistent to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand' and 'While', which assist in linking ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'as they sleep for 8 hours and relax for 7 hours. As well as they study for 9 hours'). The transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to the correct subjects will enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the main points, such as 'schedules', 'routine', and 'balanced'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'rest of two countries' instead of 'other two countries' and 'get them relaxed' instead of 'relax'. The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, focus on learning collocations related to data description, such as 'allocate time', 'a significant proportion', or 'a balanced distribution', rather than relying on simpler phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the study time of japan students'), subject-verb agreement, and punctuation (e.g., spacing before commas). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'which is as similar to the German students as they sleep for 8 hours'. While these errors do not completely prevent understanding, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency. You should focus on proofreading for basic errors like missing articles and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with correct grammatical subordination.
