Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the task by identifying the main features of the bar chart. However, the analysis is quite superficial. You have listed the percentages for each category in each country, but you have not effectively 'selected and reported' the main trends or made meaningful comparisons. For example, you could have highlighted that Japan has the highest study time or that the UK leads in sleeping hours. The data interpretation is also slightly confusing, as you describe the percentages as 'ratios' and the figures provided (e.g., 8.5%) seem to misinterpret the scale of the chart. To improve, focus on grouping data to show relationships rather than listing individual figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'lets talk about' and 'there are'. The transition between ideas is often abrupt, and the referencing is sometimes unclear (e.g., 'that is also higher ratio of the graph'). To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your sentences and ideas more fluidly, and ensure that your paragraphing reflects a logical progression of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is limited and relies heavily on basic descriptors. Phrases like 'high ratio of the people' and 'lower ratio of the graph' are imprecise and repetitive. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'peoples' (which should be 'people') and 'studies' (which should be 'studying'). While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is not sufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. You should aim to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'significant', 'marginal', and 'trend'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include 'the information of the typical weekday', 'the percentage of the peoples who are sleeping', and 'there are higher percentage of the people who studies'. Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralisation and verb forms. Increasing the variety of sentence structures will also help improve your score.
