Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the chart, but there are significant inaccuracies in the data reporting. For example, you state that Japan spends 13 hours studying, which is correct, but then you claim Japan and Germany reported 8 and 9 hours for studying, which contradicts your earlier statement and the data. Additionally, the comparison between countries is inconsistent, and the summary of the 'relaxing' category contains factual errors regarding the figures for the UK and Germany. While you attempt to highlight key trends, the data misinterpretation prevents a clear overview of the information provided in the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally confusing. For instance, the transition 'Whereas, UK and Japan follows by a slight difference' is grammatically awkward and lacks clarity. The progression of ideas is hindered by the factual inconsistencies mentioned in the task achievement section, making it difficult to follow the comparison between the three countries. More varied linking words and better referencing (e.g., using 'the former' or 'the latter') would improve the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is repetitive and lacks precision. You frequently use the word 'reported' and 'hours' in a way that feels formulaic. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'the less figure is reported in relaxing', which is not natural English. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of synonyms and more sophisticated collocations to describe trends and data points, such as 'the highest proportion' or 'a significant disparity'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede communication. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('UK and Japan follows', 'student in Japan devote'), missing articles ('the highest numbers of hours'), and awkward phrasing ('the less figure is reported'). While you attempt some complex sentence structures, they are often marred by errors. You should focus on basic sentence construction and ensure that subjects and verbs agree, as well as correctly using articles and prepositions to improve the overall accuracy of your writing.
