Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the chart, including the three categories of activities across the three countries. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and relies on listing data rather than providing a cohesive comparison. While the main trends are identified, the report lacks a clear overview that synthesises the data effectively. The comparison between countries is present but could be more analytical. For instance, stating that Japan 'devote more to their academic' is a good observation, but the overall structure lacks the depth required for a higher band. The response addresses the prompt but remains at a descriptive level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'Then the studying is also...' and 'Then Germany has...' are used frequently, which makes the flow feel disjointed. There is a lack of variety in linking words, and the progression of ideas between sentences is sometimes abrupt. While the paragraphing is present, the internal cohesion within paragraphs needs to be improved to ensure a smoother transition between the data points presented.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. The student uses basic terms like 'good', 'studying', and 'relaxing' throughout the text. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'The Japan is having highest no of people studying' and 'The people of UK has good sleep cycle then Germany'. These errors indicate a lack of precision. To improve, the student should aim to use more varied vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'allocate', 'devote', or 'significant', and ensure correct grammatical forms of nouns and verbs.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('The Japan', 'The UK'), subject-verb agreement ('The Japan is having', 'The people of UK has'), and comparative structures ('high then sleeping', 'good sleep cycle then Germany'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and punctuation hinders the overall quality of the writing. More attention to articles and comparative adjectives is necessary for improvement.
