Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you have identified the main features of the bar chart, the analysis is somewhat superficial. You successfully highlight the contrast between Japanese students and those from the UK and Germany, but the description of the data is occasionally inaccurate (e.g., stating Japanese students study for 13 hours, which may be a misreading of the visual data). To improve, ensure you provide a more precise summary of the data points and avoid subjective commentary, such as speculating on why students are 'more talent in study,' as this is not supported by the provided chart.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, including an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition 'Similarly' is used, but the connection between the ideas could be smoother. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more naturally, and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that contributes to the overall progression of your report.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'time' and 'spent' repeatedly. There are also some awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'more talent in study' instead of 'more academically inclined' or 'higher academic performance.' To improve, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'allocated,' 'devoted,' 'proportion,' or 'significant discrepancy.' Expanding your range of synonyms will help you avoid repetition and demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the bar graph demonstrate,' 'student are of different countries') and missing articles ('in difference for sleeping'). Additionally, there are punctuation and phrasing errors that occasionally hinder the clarity of your message. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Proofreading your work for these common errors will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing and help you achieve a higher band score.
