IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The bar chart shows the typical weekday for students in three different countries.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The bar graph illustrates how students spend their time on a typical weekday in the UK, Japan and Germany.

It was found that students in Japan were more studious than the learners in other countries. Japanese students preferred to spend more time studying than relaxing, whereas British and German students chose to relax and sleep as much as they studied.

British students were found to sleep for about 8.5 hours, while the German spent 8 hours each day. The amount of time spent resting was the same for students in the UK and Germany. It is interesting to note that not only did learners in Japan spend the least time sleeping, but also spent the minimum amount of time to relax, choosing to be more productive in their free time.

In conclusion, Japanese students were found to be more hardworking and productive during their weekdays by a huge margin over British and German students.
