Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to provide a clear overview or accurately report the main features. The description of the data is fragmented and contains significant inaccuracies, such as misidentifying categories (e.g., listing 'Germany' as a feature of Japan's data). The comparison between countries is underdeveloped and lacks the necessary precision required for an Academic Task 1 response. The student focuses on individual numbers rather than synthesizing the information to highlight trends or significant differences. Consequently, the response does not fully address the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and often misused, such as the abrupt transition 'Germany. the study rate is on top'. Punctuation is frequently incorrect, with full stops used where commas or conjunctions are needed, which disrupts the flow of the text. Referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the three countries. The overall structure lacks the logical flow expected at higher bands.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary range is limited and repetitive. The student relies on basic terms like 'rate', 'figure', and 'number' throughout the text. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'the least relaxing graph is of Japan' and 'the supreme rate of sleeping'. These errors occasionally impede the clarity of the information being presented. To improve, the student needs to incorporate a wider range of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', 'allocate', and 'spend time'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly in sentence structure and punctuation. There are many sentence fragments, such as 'followed by German and then UK.' and 'followed by sleeping with a number of 8 and relaxing 7.' Subject-verb agreement is also inconsistent, for example, 'students who lives'. While the meaning is generally discernible, the high frequency of errors in basic structures prevents the response from reaching a higher band. The student should focus on mastering simple sentence construction before attempting more complex structures.
