Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While the student attempts to describe the data, the information provided is often confusing and inaccurate. For instance, the report mentions percentages like '8.5 percent' and '13%' which do not clearly correspond to the visual data provided in the prompt. The overview is vague and fails to highlight the key trends or make meaningful comparisons between the three countries. The response is under-developed and lacks a clear, accurate summary of the main features, leading to a low score in this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression of ideas is weak. The use of cohesive devices such as 'To begin with' and 'Moreover' is mechanical and often misused, as the sentences that follow do not logically support the introductory phrases. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the countries. The flow of information is disjointed, and the lack of clear links between the data points hinders the overall coherence of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary range is quite limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'studying number are highest' and 'relaxing least favourite activity'. The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe trends, relying on basic verbs like 'drop', 'rise', and 'fell' which are often used incorrectly in context. Spelling errors and incorrect word forms (e.g., 'dicline', 'flucuatate', 'addtion') are noticeable throughout the text. To improve, the student needs to focus on learning specific academic vocabulary for describing charts and graphs.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The grammatical range is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentence structures. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'student typical weekday gradually dicline') and article usage. Complex sentence attempts are often faulty or grammatically incorrect, such as 'While In Germany student flucuatate there activity'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of capital letters in the middle of sentences. These errors are frequent and occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the intended meaning. A greater focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for grammatical accuracy is required.
