Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the bar chart, including the three categories of activities across the three countries. You successfully identified the key trends, such as Japan's high study hours and the relatively low time spent relaxing. However, the report contains some factual inconsistencies; for instance, you state that Japan recorded the least time for relaxing, but the chart shows Germany and the UK have lower figures for certain activities. Additionally, the data points for sleeping are slightly inaccurate compared to the visual representation. To improve, ensure that your data extraction is precise and that your comparisons are clearly supported by the figures provided in the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'In terms of', 'Moreover', and 'In contrast' to link ideas. However, the progression of ideas is occasionally disjointed, particularly in the final paragraph where the data regarding sleeping times is repeated and slightly contradictory to earlier statements. The use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more balanced to ensure a smoother flow of information. Improving the transition between sentences would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrates', 'significantly', and 'patterns'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'time spend of sleeping' instead of 'time spent sleeping' and 'significantly fall' instead of 'significantly lower'. There is also a spelling error ('whish' instead of 'which'). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure that your collocations are natural. Expanding your range of reporting verbs and comparative phrases will also help improve your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('students... spent', 'Japan recorded... for just 4 hours') and incorrect verb forms ('significantly fall' instead of 'fell'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences ending abruptly or lacking necessary commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like tense consistency and article usage. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will help you achieve a higher band.
